I'm fairly new to whole "weight loss/eating heatlhy" lifestyle, so I have a quick question.
yesterday, while shopping with my mom, we ate at Subway. We split a 6" sub (meaning, we each got 3" ) that was a turkey breast on wheat, no cheese, loads of veggies and spicy mustard. We drank water and did not eat chips.
Does this sound like a meal that would be somewhat healthy? I know that it's definitely not overly healthy by any means, but does it sound like something I might could eat again or should I cut it out completely?
TIA
Re: sandwiches?
If by "healthy" you mean, like, wholesome, nutrient-dense, well-balanced: then I don't think it's as good. For one, Subway bread is total crap. Seriously, look at the ingredients of the bread some time. Pretty much zero whole-grain or fiber, and lots of weird stuff too. Lots of veggies is good, and lean proteins like turkey are good too (although I don't know the quality of their sandwich meats, honestly). But don't be afraid of a little fat! Fat is a necessary nutrient and too often people assume that it's evil and should be avoided.
So here's the thing: I love sandwiches. I have a sandwich for lunch pretty much every weekday because I love them. But you'd do better to make your own with good bread, lots of veggies, a little cheese or high quality mayo (I make my mayo, usually) and sandwich meat that is minimally processed. My very favorite thing ever is when we buy a fresh turkey breast and I roast it myself and slice it and use it for sandwiches all week. So good!
That seems like a really small lunch. The whole sub would be around 300 calories or less depending on the kind of veggies you got on it, and you split it- which would put it at 150 a piece. Turkey breast is usually the safest option at a sandwich place in terms of fat and calories.
Fast food isn't really healthy most of the time but most places have at least some sort of healthy options now. Subway is definitely one of the best for healthy eating on the go.
[QUOTE]When you say "healthy" do you mean "low-calorie"? It definitely sounds like not many calories. If that was my entire meal, I would get stabby. It doesn't seem like nearly enough food. Ditto everything here, especially the parts about it being not a lot of food.
I'll also reiterate that low calorie and healthful are horses of completely different colours. Even Subway's "multigrain" bread is full of junk.
We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?

If it's too much food, share a bowl or get it to go and put the leftovers in the fridge for later.

[QUOTE]Personally, I prefer Chipotle if I need something fast. I'm a vegetarian, so I get a bowl with just a smidge of rice, then load up on black beans, fajita veggies, fresh salsa, guac, and lettuce. Fresh, nutrient-dense food that is filling and delicious. This exactly, although I rarely end up with leftovers, LOL!
