Ready Set Goooo...Day 1

Alright...so I'm a semi newbie on this board, but I started going back to the gym as of a week ago. I've been sticking to my guns and eating properly.
I weighed myself yesterday evening and I actually lost 4 pounds. I'm happy about that.

This week (starting today) FI and I are starting a soup diet (it's not a fad, it's actually a diet made for heart patients...we got it from his bro who works in a hospital). You do it for 7 Days (today is Day 1) t's very simple to follow, but hard to follow through. Everyone I spoken to seems to have stopped within 3 days. It's just very healthy items you have to eat and NO...absolutely NO sugars.
Some have lost up to (and this I would think is extream) 17 pounds. We don't expect to lose this much obviously. We just want to get healthy and it also is a cleanser. We're going to the gym everyday so we don't just depend on the diet.

I will stick to my guns on this one and see how it goes.

Just thought I would share!! Smile

What is the point of this soup diet? Why not just eat healthy and smaller portions? Eating only soup does not sound good for you and completely unappetizing - regardless of where it came from. There's a reason most people only stuck to it for 3 days. I don't think you will get good feedback regarding it on this board.  Once you go back to eating regular food, you will gain back any weight you lost. This should be a lifestyle change, and eating soup 7 days a week is not a lifestyle change...

Do you food log? Eat clean? If the answer is no, I would start. Cut out all the processed junk and start taking a serious look at how many calories you're consuming and where they are coming from. Use something like myfitnesspal or spark people (both free) and start food logging.

Check out the sticky at the top of this board and go from there. Good luck.

We actually do eat very healthy and work out daily. But I'm not at my ideal weight due to a year of pure laziness (I lost my mom and basically gave up for awhile).
It's something we wanted to try to help purge our body of any impurities so to speak.
And from what we have been told by his brother it helps loose some weight.
Throughout the time we eat the soup, which is full of veggies, we eat other very healthy food. It's not about starving yourself. I'm certainly not starving from eating lots of fruit yesterday or eating lots of veggies today.

If it doesn't work, it doesn't work but we wanted to give it a try. At least we can say we ate very healthy.

I understand though why some may not regard it well, which is why I posted that it's not a fad. My bff/moh is actually doing the Bernstien Diet and I'm not very fond of that because I have a horrible feeling once she stops ($600 a month is a bit much...imo) she'll gain it all back and she won't be happy.

  • Want to know what's cool?  Your body has a built in way of purging impurities.  It's called your liver and kidneys.  If they're working, they're "detoxing" you every single day.

Just because it's a hospital created diet doesn't mean it's a good idea for everyone.  You said it's used for heart patients.  I sort of assume it's for people who need heart surgery or have had heart attacks that need to lose as much weight as possible in a very short time in order to safely undergo some procedure or another, or because their lives are in danger if they don't.  That doesnt mean that the average person can or should do it.

I mean, pre-gastric bypass patients go on a doctor imposed diet where they eat about 800 calories a day, and after surgery, they're lucky to eat that much daily.  That doesn't mean you should do it too.

  • Agree with PP. Once you go back to 'real' food, the weight you've lost will come back.

Clean eating and tracking are the way to go (I'm working on that part too - I've got the fitness on track!)
