Getting in Shape

P90x opinions

I'm in ::decentshape:: <-- relative term, lol. For someone who is in okay shape is p90x really super hard? I'd love to give it a try to get all toned and stuff, but I'm totally nervous. Anyone ever done p90x??

Re: P90x opinions

  • Its a good program - very hard though. But that's not in a bad way. C&S is right, the majority of the results is from following the meal plan. Although, I did not follow the meal plan and still saw some results. I haven't done the regimen in a few months, but when I want a good ass kicking I do Plyometrics.
  • GREAT PROGRAM !!! Did it or the past two years it really does work! I am working on Insanity now! Thats something else!!!
    ENJOY!

  • Loved the program!  Just take your time with the weights, I ended up with tendonitis in my tricep from going to high with the weights too fast.  (It wasn't too extreme, I went from maybe 5-10lb to 15-20 for most exercises in the lifting workouts).  Since I love my kayak and that's my preferred method of working out, I gave up the p90x.
  • Hi! I have been doing p90x for about 10 weeks and I really like it. It definitely makes you feel strong but if you are looking mainly to lose weight, don't expect too much from it! I started out following the nutrition program exactly and was barely losing anything which meant even if my muscles were getting toned, you couldn't really see them under my fat ;) So after the first 5 weeks or so i switched over to a lower calorie diet and started doing cardio instead of yoga and that really cranked up my results! You could always start off on their eating plan but be open to switching if you want to really see results! I think they estimate you burn 600 calories per workout, and account for that with a lot of extra food!, but I think that might be a bit ambitious. Oh, and regarding how hard it is, it is DEFINITELY doable. You will just start doing a lot less reps and taking a lot more breathers, which they totally encourage you to do. GOOD LUCK!!

  • I tried the nutrition part of P90X but not the exercise part (my cousin let me borrow the nutrition guide but not the DVDs :P).  At first I tried the actual meal plan version but that didn't work well for me because there are some foods that it includes a lot of that I strongly dislike.  I tried the breakdown by the number of servings you can have of each food group each day, but I found the amount of carbs it wanted me to restrict to highly unrealistic.  It left me feeling exhausted all the time and I wasn't even doing the exercise portion of it!  I was doing my own exercise routine though, but still.  One serving of carbs every day is not realistic for me.  I did attempt to follow it for several weeks though before deciding it was not a good fit for me.

Two of my cousins have done the whole program though and they had a lot of success with it.
  • I finished the program about a month ago and I really liked it. I built muscle but did not lose any weight. You can definitely do it, it's tough but just go at your own pace and work up. The arm workouts are awesome.

I have a GoWearFit (Body Bug) and I burned approx 350 calories per workout, and I did them all start to finish. I think 600 is a very high estimate. (I'm 5'6 134lbs FWIW)Be sure to stretch a LOT, I was pretty much sore for the entire 90 days. GL!
