Getting in Shape

Where do I start??

OK well my dress has to be ordered soon. I am really looking to lose 80 pounds by the wedding. Its just over a year away but I need help. Where do I start? I try to eat right but with 2 kids I go nuts and I think I splurge with them. My son is gtting ready to go to school from 12:30-3:30 and my daughter is in all day so I will have the time to workout I just dont know where to start. I am 5'1" and am a VERY chesty woman (like 48F) so I know they arent going anywhere.
PLEASE HELPSmileThank you

Re: Where do I start??

  • Have you tried talking with your doctor? What about a food journal? I've found it really eye opening, to see EXACTLY what I'm putting in my mouth, and how it's affecting me. I JUST (as in yesterday) joined Weight Watchers, and attended my first meeting this morning, and I think it's really going to help me out. What kind of excercise are you interested in? I'm trying lots of things out right now, to find something I really enjoy, and don't view so much as "ugh.....I have to go excercise" HTH!
  • I am thinking that walking will do me wonders. I can go to the track and just walk forever

  • The bolding really isn't necessary, we can see what you've written just fine.

First thing, start tracking your food.  A free site like MyPlate (through Livestrong.com) or SparkPeople can help you determine a daily calorie goal and allow you to easily track the food you're eating each day.  Things like Weight Watchers, while not free, have also helped a lot of people have some really great success.

I was amazed by how much I was eating when I first started tracking.  It's nuts how you think you are "eating well" but still eating waaay too much.

Focus on whole, natural foods and avoid processed things.  You're much much better off having a fresh salad with chicken breast that you make yourself than a Lean Cuisine type microwave meal.  If you drink soda/pop, make an effort to stop.  If you put sugar or sweetener in your coffee or tea, start cutting back with the aim of stopping all together.  Those type of things can add up quickly.

  • raynes- sorry I actually had to do that so I could see I broke my glasses and had no contacts left. I am all better now. Thank you I will check on Livestrong right now.
peeketon- Is walking the track better then say biking? How long should an average workout be?
