I have been engaged for nearly 3 years. During that time, I rediscovered my amazing ability to stress eat and have gained over 40 pounds. My fiance and I have FINALLY set a date for the wedding (still over 18 months away), and with that done, I have so weight-loss to do. Just this month, I've probably spent $50 on health and wellness magazines. It is easy for me to become overwhelmed by the different techniques for toning and reducing and firming different body parts that I can't even look at the magazines I've purchased.
Fortunately, I logged onto The Knot and saw the magic words "Boot Camp" on one of the pages. This sparked a memory from nearly 13 years ago...back to a time when I was in basic training for the Navy. During those few months, I lost 8 pounds, and I was more tone than ever before. No special equipment or training or fitness experts needed, just me and my will to show everyone that I could do it. And that's exactly what I need now. I have 80 pounds to lose to reach my goal weight of 150, and I think getting back to basics - or 'Basic', as the case may be - is exactly what I need.
I found the requirements on Military.com, so now onto dietary needs. There was almost no junk food to be found during boot camp. Sure, there was the occasional doughnut or bag of chips, but sugary cereals were out, coffee was out, candy was out...if it was full of crap we didn't need, we usually didn't get it. It's possible I won't be quite that strict by myself, but limiting my intake to <1 serving of junk food each day will defiantly help my cause.
Starting tomorrow, I will be doing sit-ups and push-ups daily, as well as walking at least 1.5 miles (to start off) and stretching. I will slowly increase my distance and, hopefully, will be able to run at least 1.5 miles by this time next year. I will also be keeping a journal of my daily exercise and food intake.
I'll be updating my progress periodically. Hopefully my journey will help other brides stay positive and move forward with getting or staying in shape.
