Getting in Shape

Workout Accountability: Monday

Ah Monday. That’s all I’ve got lol. Got in 2 really good workouts this weekend. I went to spin class on Saturday morning. I don’t usually go to that class and the instructor totally kicked my butt. Great class. I lifted for about 30 minutes on Saturday too. Sunday FI and I decided to go for a run outside. I was really nervous. I’m new to running and it’s always been a struggle for me. All I could think about was when I was training for a 5k last year and I had to stop about every 60 seconds. I like running on the treadmill because I know how fast I’m going, it forces me to keep pace, I know how far I’ve gone, etc, etc. But we went 3.25 miles and I only had to stop a couple times and take a walking break. My pace wasn’t that fast only like 10:30, but still for me that’s good!

Tonight I hope to do some lifting after work.

I REALLY need to get back on track with my diet this week after eating out like crazy. Time to buckle down!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Great running Mari!! It is so fun to see progress!

I had a good quick 3 mile run on Friday and 7.25 on Saturday. Both felt really good and were ar decent paces so I was pleased. Sunday was an off day and today I don't know what I'll do. I am really feeling weird in the stomach so I'm hoping it calms down by this afternoon when it is run time.

I am sorry I missed the weekend chat thread from Friday! I want to oooh and ahhh over Anna's amazing before and after pictures too!! So impressive!

ETA: I am nearing the end of our family weight loss contest- What do you all think is the most fair way to calculate who wins? % weight lost? Total number pounds lost?? I was thinking dividing pounds lost by start weight x 100. What do you guys recommend? Doing my formula puts my sister, my FI and I all tied at 13%.
  • Nice job on sticking with the running :)

Friday I did a legs and ab workout and Sunday I ran just a little over 7 before a  Cinco de Mayo party.  I drank a decent amount but I barely ate anything!  I kept getting distracted and talking ot people that I only had a little bit of chips and dip and then a cupcake.  By the time I remembered the fajitias and fish tacos they were all gone :(  Oh well, I guess that made it so I didn't go ridiculously over... I'm sure the drinking did though!

    Good morning!

Great job getting workouts in over the weekend!! I failed on this front! How was your tasting, kp? That was this weekend, right?

I had my dress fitting this weekend with my sister's fiance's mom. When I first bought the dress, I couldn't even get it up over my hips--that's how much I had gained since purchasing. The only thing she has to do at this point is hem it! It zipped right up when I put it on this weekend.

I have been stuck around the same weight for the past month. My goal this week is to track everything I eat on MFP. I've been keeping track of my eating "in my head," which as we all know, is not the best thing to do!

    Tonight is a Jillian DVD.

Happy Monday & have a great day everyone!

ETA: Gaining between buying & the dress actually coming in, to clarify!

  • Good job running Mari!!

kp--I would go with percentage of weight loss.

I didn't do a whole lot of exercise this weekend.  My dad and I did go walking in their woods looking for morel mushrooms, so that was all of my activity.  (No mushrooms to be found, sadly.)  But I did try on my dress Saturday to see what progress I had made and what I have yet to do, and it fit sooo much better.  I could breathe, and I did not look like or feel like a sausage.  Yaaay!  What a relief.  So now I can continue working on my body, but I know I won't have to let the dress out as long as I maintain or lose.  Such a relief.

  • I got a great workout in on Saturday (20 minutes on the stairmaster, 25 on the elliptical and 30 minutes of weightlifting!)....unfortunately I'm STILL sore from the weightlifting.

Also, my feet falling asleep on the ellpitical is starting to drive me freakin' crazy. I know a lot of it is my stupid shoes, but I have trouble justifying purchasing new shoes when I have so many other expenses right now. I'm pining after a pair of vibram five-finger shoes.

I've noticed this happens to me too.  It's frustrating.

<div>I've found that the looser and less confining my shoes are the less it happens (I just switched to a new pair of shoes, so because they aren't broken in my feet like insta-go to sleep), and also if I switch up directions (start for 10 mins going forward then switch to going backwards etc.) that helps too. This didn't ALWAYS happen to me on the elliptical, it just started in the last year. I'd be able to work out so much longer if it DIDN'T happen.</div>

    Hi everyone! Happy Monday!

This weekend was pretty good. Saturday, nothing exercise based occurred, but a lot of eating did! I only ended up about 150 or 200 calories over, but they were all pretty bad calories... so that was no good. Oh well, at least FI's dad will only turn 60 once.

Sunday morning I got up, it was beautiful outside, and I decided "hey, let's go jogging!" So I did. And I conquered. Little bit about my jogging - I usually go on the treadmill, have tried outside a few times and found it super hard, therefore stop after about 3 minutes. I figured out it's because I feel the need to go FAST (for me) outside - unlike I do on the treadmill. I jog like a turtle. I have short legs, and really I am not interested in speed - I just want my HR to be up for as long as I can get it there. Jogging slow, is the answer for me.. Maybe one day I'll pick up the pace. Long story short, I jogged for 38 minutes straight! Unbelievable for me! When I looked down at my iPod, I was like "PLEASE let that have been more than 15 minutes.. 38?! 38?! Wtf happened? I am AMAZING." Hahahahaha.

Sorry that was long. I'm going to try to re-create Sunday today. Glad to hear everyone had a good weekend!

Edit: I realize now that my post was unclear, that was 38 minutes jogging outside! Shoulda re-read.. ;)

  • Happy Monday All!!

I started both the South Beach Diet and the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred today, along with doing 35 minutes on the elliptical this morning. I did the SB Diet about 5 years ago and lost 25 pounds in 3 months and kept it off for 4 years until a bad year in my life brought it all back, so let's see!! Gotta fit into that teeny tiny honeymoon bikini!!! :)

  • kp  - % of weight loss is how we are calculating my office's Biggest Loser contest.

Sarah, way to go on the treadmill!

This weekend was tough diet-wise.  Darn holidays that center around drinking beer and eating yummy Mexican food!  But, I'm inspired today to get back on track hardcore.

I did well workout-wise though.  Saturday I took the day off - I needed it badly.  Sunday I felt so much more energized & kicked butt at the gym lifting quads & doing spin class.  This morning we lifted chest & tris and did 30 minutes of elliptical intervals.

Has anyoned tried the powdered peanut butter called PB2?  I just bought some yesterday at Whole Foods, and threw it in my shake this morning.  It was GOOD!  And really low-calorie.  I see a lot of baking recipes on the internet that use it.  Wondering if anyone else has tried it.

Are they doing weight lost / start weight x 100???? I'm having mental fails, and am assuming that is how you calculate it, but want to make sure!
  • kpdorr - I definitely think percentage of weight loss is more accurate than number of lbs!

I think it is working out the same! So both ways must work! I have to kick it into high gear here so I can win!!
  • Ugh, I hate how busy my Monday mornings are. Anyway, I was able to run 3 miles on Saturday before my friend's wedding.  The wedding was so fun and we danced pretty much the whole time, so I didn't feel too guilty about my wine consumption.

I did however, completely and utterly fail at healthy eating yesterday. I really need to get back on track this week!

Tonight I'm lifting and doing the elliptical. I might also do a 2 mile jog after.

Everyone's working so hard! Maribeth that's great that you ran outside!

  • Wow!!! I envy all of you with the running. I am so intimidated by it. I began insanity today!!!! So that is good news. New here, but I love the idea of accountability posts!!!! I really feel like I can do this.
