Getting in Shape

Help!

Does anyone know how to set a healthy goal weight?? The range for my BMI is between 135-169. That is such a wide range. I am currently 158, but when I look in the mirror I am still not completely satisfied with what I see. Should I just tone? I think I would be far too skinny at 135 because I have a medium frame. Any ideas on how to figure out a goal weight or who to ask?

Thank you!!!

How tall are you? Also, as far as setting a goal weight goes... start small. You're not at the point where you want to lose 25+ lbs. Therefore, start with 5 lbs. And it's not just about how you look but how you feeeel. If you're not satisfied, go for another 5. Because you're at the point where you're losing "those last 10 (or 15 or whatever) lbs" it may not come off as fast as you'd like, but don't stress! Also, like many people here have mentioned.. it's 80 to 20. Weight loss is 80% eating healthy and 20% exercise.

I use myfitnesspal.com to track calories and exercise and it has been very helpful. I'm 5' 3" and 148 lbs but I don't think I would even want to weigh less than 135 so I focus more on toning up than actual weight loss. Best of luck!

  • It kind of depends on your frame.  My "healthy range" on the BMI scale is 101.5-136.5.  At 136.5 I looked a little chubby.  I've NEVER been able to get down to 101.  I was 107 for a while and I looked ridiculously thin.

If I were you I'd start with trying to lose a dress size or two rather than aiming for a specific weight. Oprah says a dress size is 10 pounds (roughly).

  • Thanks Everyone! Maybe I'll aim for a dress size instead of a weight! I'm 5'9 and a size 10 maybe I'll start by aiming for an 8!

    THank you!
