Looking for a particular photography style

Re: Looking for a particular photography style

  • Congratulations on your engagement and welcome!! I would recommend Traci and Kelli of Anne Marie Photography. They are based out of Austin but will travel and they are amazing. I would LOVE to use them but they are out of my limited photgrpahy budget. They have many accolades and are truly seasoned in the business.

[QUOTE]I've rested my eyes, took a break and reviewed back all the photographers I liked. I realized Joseph West is exactly what I'm looking for. He's available on my date and I'm going to meet up with him this week. Only downside is that he's a little pricer than my budget. The info he send me had his starting package at $3,400 and that's just very basic. 8 hours of photography on wedding day, 1 hour engagement session, DVD and high resolution edit. No albums or print. I wonder if $3,400 includes taxes... Regardless, I loved his photos! It's very much like Pure Light, dreamy and muted and very romantic. Thanks so much! More recs is welcome though!

Do you mean Joseph Mark?  You can't put a price on good photography.  Especially since you're not doing video.  You won't regret it, trust me.

<div>I agree with this.  I paid more than my budget allowed for photography, but it was just so important to us.  We weren't planning on having a videographer, either (until we got a great deal), so having perfect photos was such a big deal.  If you really, really love the guy, I would say to see what you can adjust elsewhere in your budget (flowers, lights, favors) to make it work.</div><div>
</div><div>BTW: I used Hampton Morrow Photography, but I don't think it really fits the style you're looking for, so I wasn't going to suggest it.  Stefanie is just amazing to work with, though (and my price did include an album and all digital negatives)!</div>

  • The style of Pure Light reminds me of things I see on the Style Me Pretty blog. Try looking for photo spreads you like and who the photographer was for Dallas weddings. Here you go: http://www.stylemepretty.com/texas-weddings/dallas-weddings/

Hm...I meant Joseph West from josephwashere.com. Does he go by another name because that's what his email indicates. I agree about good photography. It's a little more expensive than what I want but hopefully we can work something out... Like 6/7 hours of coverage instead of 8. I dunno. My budget for venue and food was 10k and now it's looking to be over 11k. Getting a little bigger everytime. Oh well. Good thing I included rings and honeymoon into the mix so I'll have a little breathing room.
  • Haha I just realized that there are two Josephs, Mark and West. The one I love is West but he's from Houston! I didn't realize that until now bc I assumed the recs here are from Dallas. Well this totally bites. I'm going to ask if he charges more for Dallas shoots. Ah...!!

You are so right!! Thanks! Now that Joseph West might be way out of my budget (if it's $3,600, plus taxes, plus traveling fees since he's not based in Dallas), I'm going to have to regroup. These pics DO remind me of Pure Light. Thanks again!

</div><div>Ditto both stephiehall and ProfessorScience on this.  We went over our budget as well, but for the reason I said earlier, we decided it was worth it, especially since we weren't having videography.  I don't regret a single cent of the money that we spent on photography...not at all.  I wouldn't have changed a thing.

  • Another option (also on the higher end of your budget as they start at $3500) is Sara and Rocky. I think if you glance through their blog you'll see some of those dreamy light filled photos that you're talking about: www.saraandrocky.com.

Another that seems to be your style is Half Orange Photography: http://www.halforangephotography.com/ (they start at $3000).

A whole list of other seemingly awesome photogs that may or may not be out of your budget (but may fit your style) that you may want to check out:

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Looking for a particular photography style : Thanks! I just looked at McGowan and their style sorta reminds me of Pure Lights! I just emailed them for more info on their packages and availability. The only thing I don't like about their photos is that on some of them, they distort the pictures by stretching it out vertically or horizontally. Why the heck would they do that?! Especially horizontally!

I noticed that too, but I think it is a wide angle lens.  I don't like how a lot of their photos look out of focus.  I notice it a lot in the weddings, like maybe things are happening too quickly.

<div>No, it's called depth of field. It draws your attention to the important part of the image. It makes the images more interesting instead of having everything in the exact same focus, then your eye doesn't know where to go first. </div>

<div>I am very aware of what depth of field is.  That is not what I am referring to.  I am referring to the photos where nothing is in focus (basically just blurry pictures).  It happens mainly in the wedding photos.  I am by no means trying to start anything, and I apologize if anyone is upset.  I just thought that I would mention why I wasn't a huge fan.  I know they have a lot of support and many of you are using/have used them.  They seem like a sweet couple and are creative.  </div>
  • Ok, I found a gorgeous photographer that's similar to Pure Light and her prices are very reasonable. $2,700 for 7 hours, engagement, edit DVD! http://aprylann.com/blog/page/23/ I think I got it from the Style Me Pretty Blog. Thanks guys! Gonna meet her this week. Has anybody here had experience working with her? Thanks!
  • For what it's worth, I am a photographer in DFW and am in a facebook group with Mcgowan. They are trying to go a new direction, doing more the the 'dreamy' fairytale type shots. If you email her and tell her this is exactly what you are looking for, I think she will be thrilled!
