Bff going on weight loss program. HELP!

Ok...for starters, I'm not promoting the following company and personally know nothing about it which is why I'm starting this discussion.

My bff called me today after an appointment she had this morning and told me that she went to a Dr. Bernstein Diet & Health Clinic and signed up for their weight loss program.
She told me about all the shots and whatnot and I was kinda shocked at the amount she has to get on a monthly basis.

Now my question is, does anyone know much about this clinic?
Is it legit?
Does it really work?

I'm just concerned and want to make sure that she's doing something that won't harm her.
If you have any info please share.

Ya....if I remember correctly you get 2-3 shots a week in the buttocks! That alone makes me cringe.

I''ll put money it's some sort of appetite suppressing stuff in shot form.  Why people insist on taking the crazy train (no offense to your friend), I have no clue.  A friend of a friend also just decided lypo (lipo?) was easier than heading to the gym.  Come on people!

Overall, it looks to be another rapid weight-loss farce.  Your friend will likely lose weight due a very low calorie diet (though even that might not be true, since I can't find any information on the actual diet you're supposed to follow).  However, she'll probably add it back on as soon as she stops the program.

Well, basically they get you to come in for a "consult" so they can share with you on how it works. I guess they don't want to advertise their secrets on the web.
In our city there are 2 of these clinics, 1 of them (the one she didn't go to) says not to exercise and the other (the one she went to) say's that exercise helps tones the muscles (lol obviously). We didn't talk much more about it because I was pretty busy this morning.

I would say that clinic is not trustworthy. She'd be better off consulting with a nutritionist and getting a gym membership... but at the end of the day she'll do what she wants. Something I've learned, is that you can't change people - you can only change how you react to them and what you expect of them!

I would advise her though if I were you that you're concerned about the shots.. those sound extra freaky. I also, like everyone else, wonder about the sustainability of this weight loss. I would ask her if once she's lost weight if there's something the clinic does to provide assistance in maintenance? Maybe they do meal planning still then? But if she just goes back to "normal", she's going to balloon.

Surprising that you're not supposed to eat a balanced diet of Cheetos and Ice Cream... At least they're promoting normal healthy eating after. It could be worse - like the pre-packaged jenny craig foods. That's what a friend of mine was doing. *Sigh*.

No offence taken. She was talking about it last week, and I didn't realize how serious she was about it. She made an appointment pretty quickly and now she's started it.
I didn't have much time to grill her this morning with questions since my office was really busy this morning. She's coming over Saturday (btw she's also my MOH) so I'm going to talk to her more about it then.

The weird thing is, for her hight and bone structure she's not huge. I think she just wants to look really good in the dress next March. I said she was beautiful as is and I'm honored to have her as my MOH.  *sigh*

Well, I told her up front that I was going to keep a good eye on her for the first month. It worries me, but who knows. Maybe it will work.
Thats a good concern......I'd like to know, besides the shots what are they doing to help her loose weight.

Here's the weird thing though I forgot to meantion. They told her for her hight and body mass she should be 135 which is shocking, cause I don't think it would be healthy on her.
I may have to go with her to one of these visits. LOL. The poor person that day who would be giving her the shot is sooooo going to be grilled it's not funny! I get very protective! haha.

it's so weird that you bring this up!!! My MOH is starting this on Friday. I know nothing about it either. I'll keep you all updated and I hear anything regarding her progress.

I'll admit I was on the 'crazy train' and tried a similar diet... Appetite suppression, b-12 shots, fat burner pills, low daily calorie and carb intake … yes the weight came off quick, but as soon as I started eating normal again the weight started coming back… Trust me – its not worth it – it’s a quick fix that doesn’t last.

HELP! : Yeah, in the end, this doesn't appear to be the worst example of a weight loss program I've seen.  I just hope she's going in with an open mind and aiming for health, not just weight-loss.  Per the bolded, it looked like they based their weight recommendations on the website off of a BMI.  I don' know how tall your friend is, but 135 is pretty much smack in the middle of my healthy BMI range at 5'4".  So it's probably more of a goal to aim for than an actual hard number.

She's 5"7. I think at that hight she should weigh a tad more than that. I'm 5"4 too, and I even know my proper weight is 135 too. So how can she have the same weight??

I was going to say what a pp said that they are probably b-12 shots and there is disagreeing opinions about the  effectiveness of these on weightloss

I've gone to the weight doc and lost a ton of weight. You are referring to the shots "b6, b12, lipo, 3in1" depending on what you get. They give you a prescription for an appetite suppressant. They also give you meal plans and show you how/what to eat. Recommended Cal's and exercise goals. You have to go weekly to weigh in and get your shots. They also have weight loss meetings with the doc you record your food diary. It works if you stick with the program and learn how to be healthy.

@ annanoel21...I was actually googling b12 & B6 while this thread was loading up for me.
My moh told me this morning (we had more time to talk today) that this are what the shots are. She was speaking to some of the other clients while waiting for her turn in the clinic and apparently the weight loss really works. I am totally happy for her if it works. I want her to feel great (I love her the way she is though) and if this is something she wants to do I will support her. I told her though I wanted her to tell me anything that may be concerning if it comes up.

In the back of my head though, I feel horrible, because I think she may feel selfconcious about herself and since I asked her to be my moh she might feel pressure to look better.
I told her even before she startd talking about this clinique that I would buy her the perfect dress that suits her and not make her wear something that would not flatter her....oh well....we shall see....
