Getting in Shape

Workout Accountability: Monday

Hey guys,

I had a not so stellar workout weekend. I went to the gym Saturday and felt like death the whole workout. I managed to get 15 minutes on the stairmaster and 25 minutes on the elliptical but I was wheezing virtually the whole time. My weight lifting was so tough that I didn't do much either. Turns out my body just needed to rest - I was a little sick and then Sunday I got even sicker.

I'm feeling a little bit better today, not sure if I should attempt to go to the gym or just leave it be for a day or two.

I had a horrible weekend in relation to food. Oh well. On Saturday morning I was finally able to go for a run! I went about 6 miles give or take a bit. It felt good to be active especially since my stomach had been giving me hell all week. I'm hoping to feel up to the gym tonight! I'm really going to be monitoring closely what I eat for lunch to find the link to my issues... which I might have so fingers crossed!
  • I ran Friday and Sunday. I'm having my stupid treadmill calf tightness issue, so I need to get my butt outside to run.

    lbarr, check your PMs again!

  • Entropic, I would take one more day off for sure. See how you feel tomorrow.

J&K: Ugh I always get calf tightness!! I sometimes even have to just stop and try and stretch my calves. It's so annoying and painful.

Saturday I had a great work out. I got in an hour of cardio plus some lifting. Sunday, there was basically nothing healthy to eat besides steamed vegetables so I tried to just use portion control but I definitely did not eat very healthy. Holidays are so tough!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

  • It's awful, Maribeth! It happens far more on the treadmill than outside, btu sometimes I can't avoid the treadmill. I wish it would stop because it sucks and it cuts my runs short.

  • Entropic--I'd also take another day off, maybe go for a walk if you feel up to doing something, but I wouldn't push it.

J&K--Sorry about your calves! It has to be frustrating!

I had a pretty good workout weekend. I did light aerobics Saturday, then did elliptical and an awesome weight workout yesterday. Tonight is Zumba! I love Zumba Day!

  • I had a nasty respiatory infection starting last Thursday & I still sound like a boy going through puberty :( I had a fever on Thursday, felt run down on Friday, but still did a 5k on Saturday. Dumb, I know, but totally worth it!!

It will take me a month to get over the cough, but I'm ALWAYS going to have my medal :)
  • Wow medic! Your time must've been awesome!! Congrats :)

    J, I just did :)
  • Hi Everyone!
I ate a TON this weekend due to multiple Easter get togethers but also had some good worksouts so I am feeling pretty ok with it all! Hiked on Friday, did a quick 3 on Saturday and had a great 7mile run on Sunday! I am feeling really good and have been increasing my speed a little too. I'm also really proud of FI as he ran 6 on Sunday!

Today is an off day and then onto hills tomorrow! Hope everyone feels better/injuries improve etc!!
  • Wow, congrats Medic! That's awesome.

Good work this weekend, ladies :)

  • Happy Monday!

This weekend was the first weekend in a long while where I didn't hate looking at the scale. Usually weekends are where my eating habits fluctuate though my workouts remain consistent. Proof positive that nutrition is a large part of the equation.

Saturday I lifted and ran for 30 minutes. Yesterday was a rest day and we spent it with my family. There was so much food there (my mom cooked both ham and tri-tip... and there were only 6 of us there!) and I brough fresh asparagus to lightly sautee in some olive oil and lemon. Prior to going to my parents' house I had a small snack of an apple, almonds, and a cube of cheese. That definitely helped because at dinnner I only ate a small slice of tri-tip and filled half of my plate with the asparagus and a baked sweet potato. Since my birthday was last week, my mom also bought a cake and my FH and split a slice with my only taking 3 bites. I was quite proud of myself! Family gatherings are always hard... lots of food... lots of drinks... lots of temptations. But I survived. And the scale didn't move up which is even better.

Tonight I'll do a 20 minute high intentsity circuit followed by an hour long spin class. It's the Drill Sargeant Instructor who yells but plays good music and with 3 days until my final fitting and 12 days until our wedding I need to do everything and anything to make sure I feel and look my best.

  • Great job everyone! I definitely think I'm going to just do some easy biking tonight, I feel okay but I'm worried if I go to the gym and push real hard that I'll just get really sick again tomorrow.

[QUOTE]Great job, everyone! My weekend workout went well. Saturday became a rest day when my FI had to go in for emergency dental surgery, so I moved my long run to Sunday - went four miles, had to walk a bit of it but felt okay. Today was a cross-training day, so I stair climbed for 20 minutes, then biked for 25 minutes. Not too bad a start to the week, and I stuck to my diet plan over the weekend. I have decided that I'm taking the rest of April off from weighing myself. I feel like I've been gaining and losing the same two pounds for the past three weeks, and I want to stop fixating that and just concentrate on eating well and feeling good. So we'll see how that goes.

I fully support this decision! The scale can be considered one aspect of being "healthy" but I like to judge it by how my clothes fit, how good I feel and how well I'm eating. Good for you in breaking away from the scale :)
