Getting in Shape

This is going to be tough...

My wedding is in four months.  I really want to buckle down and tone up.  I have been working out with FI at least 5 days a week. We just started doing this together about a month or two ago.  He has been workingout for a while and lost 50-60 pounds.  I am SO proud of him. He feels much better and is skinnier than he was in high school.  He looks absolutely amazing!  So my problem is my job.  I actuall work at a bakery.  I have to go in right after school (I am a junior in college).  I always take lunch with me, usually half of  a peanut butter sandwich.  The thing is the temptation is HORRIBLE!! Everything looks, smells, and tastes AMAZING! I have tried so hard to just stop eating things from work but I can't stick to it.  The longest I have went is two weeks and then one day the cookies send me these vibes of "EAT ME" and I just can't seem to help myself.  I am addicted to sweets and cheese.  Anyway I have decided that I have to crack down and stop.  I know its going to be so hard but I want to look amazing on my wedding day.

  • A BAKERY...that is tough...Sending you Positive Knottie Vibes ~~~~
  • I love cheese too but I decided to leave it out of my sandwiches and juust have a piece of low fat string cheese which is very satisfying.

Also, since you work in a bakery maybe try to bring a weight watchers cookie or muffin that will taste sweet while you are smelling all of the goodies!

  • It sounds like your not eating enough.  Try adding more veggies, in the forms of soups or salads.  If your not satisfied after lunch it's only understandable that you become ravinous.  FI worked in a bakery in college, he had fun working there but it was a special kind of torcher because he is a diabetic. He always complained about the vegan cookies, do you make those there? With out eggs and butter they are a lot lighter, maybe set 1 a side for a late day snack.  Knowing that you have something sweet to look forward to may make you feel less deprived.
For me personally I find that sugar is addicting, once I have a little bit, I only want more.
  • Wow that would be hard!  I'm really good about what I eat when I'm in control (i.e. at home, etc.) but temptation at restaurants and parties is tough.

I think, if it were me, I'd eat a meal full of protein and fiber before I went so I'd be REALLY full and stay that way while I was at work.  Black beans, egg whites, chicken, steel cut oats..those all fill me up for a while.

Do you have a closer friend at work?  I would confide in them and ask them to help you with accountability.  Anyone would understand wanting to stay trim for your wedding.  Just tell them you need a "policeman" at work and ask them to keep you in check.

    Good luck!

  • Is there a microwave that you can use?  I'd suggest a hot meal rather than a PB sandwich.  Hot food is always more filling and satisfying to me.  I'd also suggest eating pickles.  I know it's crazy, but eating a pickle or two almost always takes care of sweet cravings for me.  (I eat a lot of pickles this time of year!)  GL!

  • good luck! but like raynes said...a cookie a day won't kill you...but maybe eating more healthy things will stop the cravings because youll be full once you get to work
  • Eat one a day, maybe right before you get off work. That way, when all the cookies are screaming "eat me!!" then you'll know you get to pick one yummy thing to have later on. You won't binge on crazy sweets this way, you'll just be a normal person eating a normal portion as part of a normal, healthy diet.
  • I have a vegan baked goods shop on Etsy, so I know what you're going through. I have extras laying around the house all the time. Just like you, I can go about 2 weeks before I break down and eat everything in sight. Instead of torturing myself, I have some sort of baked good every couple days or so. A cookie/brownie/whatever once in a while isn't going to derail your weight loss. In fact, it could help.

I have to disagree with the vegan cookie comment above. The fat content may be less in vegan cookies, but the sugar content is not. From my calculations, my vegan chocolate chip cookies are pretty close in calorie comparison to the non-vegan chocolate chip cookies I used to make.
  • Eat filling foods before you go to work, and really, like the PPs said, don't be afraid to eat a cookie.  Just don't eat 10 of them, you know?  And half of a peanut butter sandwich is not enough food.  No wonder you want to eat all the cookies- I would too!  GL, that is a tough situation.  I was in Gertrude Hawk over the weekend and thought, I'd NEVER be able to work here.  All the chocolate yuminess!
