Too much protein?

I use MFP to track my calroies and such every day and it says I consistantly go over on my protein.  I don't really think I eat that much meat, I had chicken salad for lunch and it already claims I've gone over.  It gives me 52g is that a lot?  Should I try to eat less protein or continue as is?

Re: Too much protein?

  • 52g is not a lot at all.  My daily protein goal is to keep is somehwere between 60g and 166g.  So I think your numbers might be off since my minimum on non-workout days is 60.  I'm usually in the 110g range unless it's a major workout day.
  • Ok good.  It just didn't seem right that one serving of chicken salad would provide me with all the protein I need in a day.  I won't pay much attention to mfp in that regard since you say it's healthy to eat 100g or so.  Thank you!

  • As long as you're staying within your calorie goals and not neglecting anything, it's pretty hard to have "too much" protein--and you'll know if you do (with digestive upsets).  You're ok.

  • There have been studies about protein linked to weight loss.  As in, a higher protein to carb ratio.  I wouldn't worry about too much protein as long as you have a mostly balanced diet.

You're fine with your protein. It's not over board. I actually take approx .5-1g per pound of bodyweight on my non workout day and 1-1.5g per pound of bodyweight when I workout.
