Fast Food Temptations.

How do you guys deal?  It is so much easier than cooking and so tasty too... :(

Re: Fast Food Temptations.

  • Frankly, I find doing advance meal prep, cooking at home, and not going out to eat much easier since that fast food crap takes months of hard work to get rid of and meal prep only takes a few hours a week.

Have you tried menu planning?  I do it week by week and it's been a great help in keeping myself on track.
  • I have done that but I have class from 12-4:30 and then work 5-7 and by the time I get home I never want to cook.  I think that I need to cook everything on the weekend then I can heat it up but I don't know that I have enough recipes to do that.

  • I've done some "freezer" cooking. I cook stuff ahead of time, freeze it, and when we're in a hurry we just can grab it and heat it up. Burrito are a big hit with us. I've done breakfast egg and cheese (and sausage for him) which so much better than grabbing a fast food breakfast. I've also made, bean and cheese, chicken, bean, cheese, and rice, and plain chicken and cheese. They are super quick to heat up. There are a ton of recipes out there for freezer cooking. I haven't across a bad one yet!

I also used to split up my meats and freeze it in half pound (or 2 chicken breasts) portions. But I just add a little extra now and when I cook a "nice" meal there is enough to have leftovers when we're in a hurry or need a quick meal before/after school or in between classes. I've gone back to school and this has helped a ton!

Hi everyone-BTW. I've been lurker here for awhile!

  • Ditto to anna and star - a slow cooker/crockpot will be your biggest ally against fast food.  Our next two weeks are crazy, so I just made two extremely simple crockpot dishes, and now my freezer is stocked with easily enough food for at least three to four weeks.

  • I portion up my snacks for a couple days so I can just grab the individual baggies on the go and throw them in my purse. Freezing stuff also helps, I can let meals defrost all day in the fridge while I'm gone and then just heat when I get home.

  • Slow cookers and freezer meals will be your best friends.  When you do cook, make double batches.  Portion individual portions out and freeze right away.  Label everything with what it is and the date you froze it.  Then when you don't feel like cooking, grab something out of the freezer instead of the drive thru.
