Getting in Shape

HELP ME!!

I just bought my dress...Maggie Suttero Dominique...and I love it.  Problem comes that I bought the store sample, at almost 35% off and it's a size 12 and I am measuring a size 14.  I must, I repeat MUST, loose at least 15 pounds if not closer to 30 before my wedding.  Now, I have 15 months to do it, but I lack any motivation.  As far as eating, I eat very healthy.  Spinach and tomato salads are my favorite and I'm actually allergic to chocolate so I don't eat too many sweets.  (Plus since my gastric bypass surgery, sugar sets my body into total fits).

My brain tells me to work out but I just can't seem to get up and do it.  I live in the country so going to a gym isn't a possibility.  I'm looking for an at home workout that is fun, that I can change up a bit and won't take an hour out of my day.  Suggestions...

Re: HELP ME!!

  • I just told someone else this.... I am not motivated to work out alone so my 24 hour fitness has great classes that are only an hour and really help.

option: My mom was a wedding dress seamstress for most of my childhood and you would be surprised with how easy it is for someone to resize a dress she did it all the time (and if you look in your area for an independent seamstress it may be cheaper than a stores seamstress.  I remember she cut up two size 12 dresses to make into a size 24 dress.  Wedding dresses are made to be altered!

    I use
www.caloriecount.com/">www.caloriecount.com like it is my bible and it is free-- it has really helps me keep track of nutrients/lose weight the healthy way.

Also have you tried a cleanse?  My mom has a lot of them- I use a general detox pill every day that helps clean out the toxins in my system.  (all natural, no side effects or problems at all).  Here are some:

A wedding is a party, not a performance. If at the end of the day you are married to the one you love, then everything went perfectly.
  • I've heard awesome things about the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred on here from alot of the girls and I just got it in :-) The work outs are supposed to be about 20 mins. so nice and short! Good luck!

  • I wouldn't worry too terribly much about it for another 9 months or so.   In 15 months you could lose 20 pounds, regain it back, and lose it again.  I'd try to maintain your weight for now and then when the date it closer and you get the extra motivation from knowing that the wedding is just around the corner, THEN start calorie counting strictly and working out when you get the chance.

I started at 75 days out from the wedding, it's been 50 days (ish) so far and I've lost 15 pounds.  1-2 pounds a week is safe.
  • Do you own a Wii? Zumba fitness for Wii is AWESOME! I have had it since February and I love it!!

Yeah, I'd say that's actually kinda crappy advice.  Why not start now and learn the healthy habits and then maintain when you get to a healthy size?  Seriously.

Also, cleanses don't work, so please, stay away from that.

Healthy, sustainable weight loss happens at a rate of 1-2 lbs per week, so OP, you've got plenty of time.  Read the stick at the top of the page for new posters for most of the advice we give to people starting out.  Sign up for one of the free sites and get some workout DVDs.

As for motivation, you just have to make healthy eating and exercise a priority.

  • I started weight watchers and lost 10 lbs in the first month. so i thought that was pretty good-being my weight loss goal was only 15lbs.  I've maintained it off since feb 1st by just cheating on the weekeds and following it during the week.  i didn't actually join weight watchers either.  I just printed off a slider and keep track of my points that way.  I LOVE my Denise Austin workout video.  Ive had it for like 4 years and i never get tired of it.  Try doing that and walking outside will help so much too!

  • I agree with raynes, I don't like the advice that it would be better to wait 9 months before starting a lifestyle change.  That's just 9 more months that you can spend getting healthy and fit instead of being uncomfortable with yourself.  Definitely start now.

Believe me, I know it's hard to work up motivation sometimes.  There's LOTS of ways to try to motivate yourself, depending on what works for you.  Try some of these out:

Find an online community like sparkpeople or myfitnesspal that you can log into and track your food and exercise, and post in the messageboards on there.

Find a local weight loss support group, or join an exercise class at a gym/community center.  It helps to be accountable to someone.

Get a wall calendar and write in what workouts you need to do each day for like a month in advance, if possible.  Put it somewhere highly visible.  When you do that workout, mark it in some way (i.e. a sticker, draw a smiley face, etc.), and when you miss it, mark it in some other way.  This actually helped me a lot, because I can see in black and white in front of my face where I'm falling short.

Yes, get some varied workout DVDs and/or onDemand videos.  Mix it up if you crave variety.  Good luck to you!

  • TURBOJAM!!!! I bought TurboJam and the week after I received it I found out I was pregnant- can you say boycot? Needless to say I didn't start that right away. However I did begin right after I had my son and lost all of my baby weight PLUS 15 lbs! It is totally awesome and I never get sick of it. The best part is that you can chose how long you would like to work out for because there are so many different workouts to chose from.
I will say that it is totally a ifestyle change, because you will gain it back if you don't keep up with it. Eating healthy is the only way your exercise will work to its full potential.
Motivation- just watch the TurboJam infomercial.... I will even watch it if I am not feeling like doing the workout just so I can get some motivation- I know, sounds pretty funny, but it is totally inspiring.
I have my dress fitting in a week and a half- I havn't tried on ym dress since I bought it over a year ago- so lets hope this has worked for me:)
    Good Luck!
