Anyone lift weights/barbell strength training?

Just curious, I'm really into it and would love to see if any of you ladies do it too. I'm 5 foot tall 100 pound girl with a PR squat of 135, Bench of 62 and Dead-lift of 135.

My profile:
Wedding date: August 5th,2012

Weight loss/fitness goals: None, just get as strong as I can and eating well!

Favorite cake flavor: Lemon pudding filling

If you lurk, how long have you: few months

Anything interesting about yourself: I'm a concert violinist.

I love to lift weights and kickbox. It is my anger management.

I can bench 190, deadlift 200, and squat 400. I have been super careful with my squats lately because of my rapid weight gain.

I am 5'1" 230lbsish give or take. Have hypothyroidism so Its been a very trying year for me.
My ideal weight is 145 and a size 12 jean. I have A LOT of muscle mass and do not want to weigh less than the gear I carry. I had the issue for the first few years of my career and do not want to repeat that.

Right now, my goal is to get in better shape and be happy with the person I look at in the mirror. Starting P90x back up and throwing some Insanity and Turbofire in.

I've been lurking for a while. My squat is 135, deadlift 225, and 110 for my bench...and I finished a Spartan Military Sprint!! Aroo! Lol
I really enjoy weight training, try to mix in some crossfit style training so I can run the occasional OCR. I am 5'4" (and a half! Lol) and weigh 127 give or take a couple lbs. I think my only goal is to lose some extra fluff and my tummy pooch :) I wanna look like or close to like the muscle figure models! :D

  • That's awesome ladies! Good to know I'm not the only one. Just did some presses today, still really need some work with my posture/form.

daffydillie: You sound intense! I would love to do kickbox but unfortunately it's just a little too pron to injury espcially at the wrist for a violinist.

Congrats icefrog! Yeah I'm also trying to get my tummy fat off and gain some muscles.

What programs are you guys on? I'm on the Rippetoe Starting Strength, linear progression.

I'm not on any program, I just kind of wing it, lol. Considering bringing a training plan to the gym with me though now. I have too many days when I go to the gym without an idea of what I want to work on so then I end up not pushing as hard as I probably should :/ Are you struggling with your eating habits?

  • I have always done weight lifting, esp. squat, deadlift, bench, and clean.  At my FI's advice, I switched from the more olympic lifting to targeted lifted about 2 months ago and have seen awesome improvements as far as toning for the wedding dress. I recommend 2 days of arm weights (1 day back and biceps, 1 day chest and triceps), 2 days of legs (squats, lunges, hamstrings, quads), I do shoulder work on my on my active rest day.

What can you recommend if I consistently have issues with my shoulders? I've tried giving a decent rest period for healing, going with lower weights, that sort of thing. They still smart a bit when I do any kind of arm/shoulder work. I modify my form a little to alleviate, but is that really a good idea?

</div><div>Haha I would really recommend have a program or else you are just going into the gym slightly blind. I'm not too worred about my eating habit, I do feel that after I go to the gym I ended up eating anything I see. (lol) That works for a guy who wants to gain weight, but for a girl it's counterproductive. I try eating high protein food and drinking smoothies after workout preventing myself for reaching over for startchy and fatty foods. </div><div>

I just wrote down a training plan off of Bodybuilding.com for women...excited to implement it!   I think the other big battle I have is my sleep schedule.  I work all night long and only sleep for an hour after work, and then again about 4 hours before I go back in.  Makes for a very sleep girl!  Not as much motivation as I would like to see in myself, lol.
