Can I Have an AW Moment?

Just went for a jog with FI to burn off our ginormous pancake and bacon breakfast.  I have never been able to run much after my knee surgery, now almost 10 years ago, because of an issue with the cartilage behind my kneecaps (or lack thereof.)  But today, just now, I made it 2.43 miles in under 28 minutes!  I am so excited that a 5k with FI might be in the cards someday, if my knees keep cooperating!

  • WOOT! Way to go! I'm envious of your running skills :)
Do you take anything like glucosamine for the kneecaps now?
You're so close to 3 miles! You will totally be ready for a 5k soon :)
  • That's awesome, Lobsters!  Congrats on the huge accomplishment :)

  • Thanks!  No, I don't take glucosamine or anything because, sadly, it won't help.  It's ultimately why I got into cycling as my cardio alternative, which I love.
Without trying to bore you with a long backstory...
In the middle of my surgery to fix some other things, they found tons of pieces of cartilage that had flaked off into pieces too small to detect in an MRI.  I gather the way my kneecap and bones fall causes a bone-on-bone collision which, over time, will destroy most of the cartilage behind my kneecaps.  The doctor rounded off one of the bones at the time to reduce the damage, but told me that it will most likely happen to my other knee, too.
They're starting to hurt a bit from today's run already, but nothing some ibuprofen and a few days rest from squats and running won't solve.

At least ibprofin helps though.. that's something :/

That is great! I don't know how the weather is where you are, but here it is an amazing day for a run!!
  • That's awesome! Congrats on such a wonderful accomplishment! One day, and one run, at a time. That distrance will increase soon enough. Keep up the great work!
