New Diet

Me and my FI have decided to try the no carb diet, since Monday I have lost 4 lbs and he has lost 3 lbs (he is working out so probably adding a lot of muscle mass so not losing as quickly). I thought I would miss the carbs but I am love eating protein, fruits, veggies, and even fatty foods that are often thought of as bad such as burger (no bun) and losing weight. Def. not sacrificing flavor for weight lose!

I'm going to be a negative nancy here, but you need some carbs. You need to make sure the carbs you take in are complex carbs, like whole wheats, not refined carbs. I know I personally can't go without a complex carb for more than maybe four or five days without getting sluggish. I workout a lot and need the long lasting energy provided by carbs, otherwise my blood sugar drops out. Also, fruits have carbs in them, fyi.

Congrats your weight loss so far though! I'd be happy to lose four pounds, for sure!

  • I'm going to be a total downer, but only because I don't want you to get sick or disappointed.

That huge loss so far?  Water weight.  Your loss WILL slow down.  Expect it. D on't be disappointed.

Veggies and fruits are almost pure carbs.  I think you mean grain-free?

Your FI will not have gained enough muscle to negate fat loss in one week.

Carbs (and grains) are not the devil.  You just need to make smart choices, eat reasonable portions, and monitor your caloric intake.

  • When you eat a large amount of carbs, you body burns the carbs and then stores the fat instead of burning it as energy. So, we have been doing well energy wise, I don't feel any more tired this week than I have previously. Also, my FI has been gym bound for like a month now, sorry for not being clear on that. Yeah, I figure it will slow down at some point but it is definately a better start than any other diet I have tried. Yes, I know fruits have some carbs so yes I should have said no grains...I guess this is what I get for typing it so quickly :P.

I will definately be adding a gym element at the end of this next week, life is so busy right now with school, work, extra curricular activities that I have to just hope I get enough activity walking up and down stairs at school and walking around my classroom during lessons. I do appreciate all the feedback, I just hope that someone who is struggling with their diet to lose weight and keep it off will see this post and maybe have hope for a new diet to try. I would sugguest getting the Atkins diet book vs. trying to do it without it, we have several friends who have done it and lost awesome amounts of weight in short periods so we are hoping it will jumpstart our wedding weight lose. It feels like a large amount because it took me like one month to lose the other 4 lbs before this diet so to go from losing 4 in one month and 4 in one week feels like a big deal haha.
  • If you're set on doing low carb, check out south beach vs Atkins. South beach is generally a more well rounded, nutritionally balanced plan.
