Computing calories, portion sizes and eating out

I have been eating out all week due to being at a conference. I've been struggling with whether I am over or under estimating portion sizes. I am thankful that I have made the healthiest choices I can with the foods provided having a snack of fruit instead of a muffin and taking small portion sizes at lunch. My question is are there any tricks for estimating the size of a portion?

We went for dim sum tonight. I was relatively thankful the menu explicitly listed the calories for the set menu we wanted. 945 per person! Knowing that I graciously offered the 3rd item of many of the dishes to my coworker. I am guessing that I cut the calories by about 200 by doing this and passing on the dessert. not sure how accurate my calculation is though. I hope it is close.

  • Thanks Kwith. It didn't turn out to be as bad as I thought it would be. I did indulge in a couple of things like curries and a pimms & lemonade but those were worth it. Will see how I fared when I get on the scale on Friday.

  • Just a suggestion? Maybe skip the scale this week, get back into your routine and measure yourself after you've had a week of normalcy again :)
