Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

2 Officiants?!

Hi Everyone!

I'm a first time poster here but I love all the advice you give and receive from each other so I'm hoping you all can help me out.

My wedding is going to be VERY informal and rather non-traditional. It is taking place in my brother's backyard and my fiance and I are each having only one attendant. This is where my question comes in. I have 2 brothers and I really want them both directly involved in the ceremony. Is it against any rules to have 2 officiants? We are not religious so it is a civil ceremony. I think it would be really neat to do, but I don't want to come off as tacky in any way.

Thanks everyone!

Re: 2 Officiants?!

  • sounds like a great idea becuase it is special to you.  i went to a wedding with 2 officiants and it was fine.  one of them did the readings and prayer but since he isn't ordained, the other pastor did the actual ceremony (vows, i know pronouce you...).  both pastors were special to the couple and it was lovely.

just make sure your brothers are legally allowed to marry people.  where i live, only religious leaders and justices of the peace/judges can marry.
  • No, it's not against the rules. And it won't look tacky, unless your ceremony in general is disorganized, or comes off as silly or circus like. You said that your wedding is very informal, so you'll just have to be careful with that. My dad is a pastor, and he's walking me down the aisle. We're having one person officiate the beginning, and my dad will officiate the second half. :-)
