Stuttering

My future husband has a slight stutter.  However, it worsens as he gets nervous.  He is terrified of saying the vows, and dosnt want to have to say more than "I Do".  I support what he wants, but i am unsure how to make it work.  Any suggestions would be helpful.   Thank you

Re: Stuttering

  • A girlfriend of mine was self conscious about crying during her vows, and she asked the officiant to read them for her. SHe wrote them, and they were introduced as being her vows. They were read exactly as though my friend were saying them, with the officiant saying "I/We" to the groom. It worked really well!

  • As with the PP, just have your officiant read them.  You guys can have a special moment set aside to say what you need to say to each other with no one else around so he can feel comfortable

  • I agree. Have the officiant read them for him
  •  I have the same worry about crying, and therefore agree with having the celebrant read if this makes the groom more comfortable. Just a thought though for other things, maybe he has already heard of this before, either singing what he wants to say or using a different voice (like doing an impersonation of someone that he has heard before) can often help with overcoming this problem, We do the same thing with children who have autism and are struggling to use words. Good luck!
