wedding Wednesday-favors

Okay so my whole life I thought I would make homemade vanilla for my wedding favors. Well 25 years later and a reality check made me realize that this idea is just way too expensive to pull it off the way I would like. So I have decided that these would make better Christmas presents then wedding favors.

So now I am left freaking out about wedding favors and what would be something that people enjoy and not just a trinket that they will leave behind or throw out. I refuse to spend the money on favors that no one will like. The ideas I have been getting from people have been mediocre at best and just strange at the worst.

So far the idea I like the best is from http://www.californiacaramelcompany.com/ and maybe the pretzel rods of the knots.

I guess my question is what are you all planning to do for favors? I also would love opinions on the pretzels. Thanks so much!

  • I'm doing cupcake in a jar using box cake mix (funfetti).

    1) it fufills FI's request for funfetti cake/groom's cake
    2) it's edible and I love all things food
    3) it's pretty cheap per favor

  • We're doing canned (jarred) salmon. We are avid fishers so its not to hard for us to get a stock pile of it. We're going to need about 50lbs of salmon and we're using FI's yummy recipe. Going to cut burlap into squares and stamp a W (Future last name initial) ontop, then screw the brass ring around it..

  • Hoping to do a succulent in cute little cup that guests can take home. Also, candy and cookie bar.

  • FI and I talked about it last night.  We're going to skip favors and put that money elsewhere in our budget.
  • If you are doing those pretzels they are super easy to make and it would probably be cheaper if you made them yourself.  We are doing a Butter cookie with the first letter of our last name which is a B.(my future last name!)
  • We are also skipping favors and doing a donation to charity. Its been a tradition with all of my family to skip them. We may put a thank you on each seat instead as a way to acknowledge our appreciation instead.
  • My mom thinks we should do something, but I have NO idea what to do!!

  • I was thinking cookie bar, we were thinking of skipping them all together because most people don't take them.

  • We are having a small reception at the church, following the service.  Far from fancy, but we valued having family with us vs. spending lots of money.  We decided that, looking at the guest list, a candy bar would go over very well.  Everyone we know has a least one "weakness", and most would like at least half of the selections.  We also didn't want something that no one would ever use.  I think that tradition might finally be over!!  ;-)

Big freeze curls framing my face like this; Inverted braid or Frech twist up the back. No flower. Veil attached to comb in the back at top of braid/twist.

  • If using wide mouth 1/2 pint jars, just fill it to the K of Kerr (it's about 1/4 of the cup). 1 box of cake mix and 1 tub of frosting will make 12 cupcake in a jar.

    I did a test run:
    2 days is the best
3 days they are starting to get stale
if you put them in the freezer they are good for 1 week

Although in one of my test runs, FI found a forgotten cupcake (I don't even think the lid was on) in the kitchen and ate after it had been sitting out for 1 week... he said it tasted fine and he didn't have a stomache... but iono about that...

  • .....late to the party.....

We are using luggage tags as our escort cards. This will double as the favor. We are only doing one tage per family/couple/single. (so not one per guest.) I would really like to also put out hershey hugs and kisses on the tables for everyone to snack on and take home.

  • I am skipping favors however, I will be adding praline candy to the traditional candy buffet.  Its just that I've been to many weddings over the years and all those little trinkets and favors end up in my junk drawer at home, so edible favors it is for me.
