How much planning have you done?

Just curious at this stage in the game, how much planning you all have done! What kind of wedding do you want? Aproximately how many guests? Will you do any DIY? Add anything else you have!

Re: How much planning have you done?

  • We're having a more casual leaning wedding. 70-90 guests (it will all depend on the list that FI's mom gives us of her people, but she's paying for any extras not on our original list). As for DIY projects, so far the plan is just flowers and invitations.

    We also have:

    Officiant
    Photographer
    Ceremony and Reception Sites
Bought things for invitations at 50% off!
Slowly acquiring silk roses with 50% off coupons
    I bought my dress
We know where we're going to go the tuxes and FI has a style in mind that he wants
We have a DJ in mind to contact and we are trying to decide between two limo companies at the moment.
The cruise part of our honeymoon is booked.

  • Wow! You have a lot done already!!!! Good for you!
We are having a backyard wedding, so venue is booked! LOL! We also have our caterer, flowers, rings picked but not purchased, photographer, decorations, bridal party dresses are purchased, groomsmen tuxes are picked, Musician types are picked but not booked, guest list will likely be around 50-75, and a lot more! I have an idea for my dress, but not picked yet....

  • I am pretty much running out of things to do, besides start dishing out the money lol.

Our church is booked. Our ceremony will be from 2:00-3:00 since it will be a full Catholic mass. Both of our families are Roman Catholic. The priest that is marrying us is the same priest that baptised me, and also was the officiant for my First Communion. My family is very involved in our church, so getting married there was non-negotiable, and FI was totally fine with that :)

My bridesmaids will be in kiwi green dresses and their bouquets will be white calla lillies. I have not gone dress shopping yet, but I do have my navy blue shoes. My bouquet will be yellow calla lillies. The groomsman will be wearing black tuxes (for now, that might change) with green vests.

Our reception starts at 6:00pm. Yes, that is a 3 hour gap, but you cannot really avoid that with Catholic church weddings. Our reception location is booked. It is a family owned farm. There is a large barn that has been updated with wiring for the DJ, lights, fans, etc. Our tables will be navy blue. The dinner we are serving is what I like to call 'fancy' BBQ. We will have an open bar for the whole evening, with a signature cocktail. Next to the bar I will have an old wheelbarrow filled with ice and mason jars with pre-poured pink lemondae, lemonade, and iced tea. There is a lot of land for us to utilize. Right in front of the barn we will have cornhole, bocce ball, and croquet set up. The farm also comes with a very large fire pit that we can use. We will have a few bales of hay surrounding it for people to sit on. Since we have the firepit, our favors are going to be little boxes with the ingrediants for smores. They can head over to the bonfire with them, or take them home. For dessert we will be serving cupcakes (5 flavors), 3 small single tiered cakes, and a whole lot of Italian bakery.

I have already made my own cake stands ($20 total for all 3!) and I have made my practice centerpieces. I am ordering my own STD's from shutterfly after we do our engagement session (our photographer is also already booked). I am going to try to DIY our invitations, but I might end up giving in on that one. I am DIYing all decorations for the church and barn.

We are in the middle of our honeymoon plans. Hopefully we will wrap that up in the next few months.

Here are some pictures of what I am talking about, just because I love to share :)

    This is the barn:

    Another view of the property:

This is what our tables will look like:

    Our centerpieces:

And our mason jar drinks (with striped paper straws):
Fill your cooler with these cocktails in a jar! Great for tailgating at the game or for your Superbowl party <img class= No more mixing and measuring cocktails for guests, these drinks are ready for guests to grab so you can enjoy the party too!" />

  • Congrats on all of your planning ladies.

We have a date picked (9-21-13), and colors chosen cranberry and pumpkin pie.
We are having an outdoor ceremony (still scouting locations).  With a guest list of approximately 175-200.

We have the officiant, a family friend.
Reception site is booked.  They are handling our food so that was a big load off of our shoulders.  They are also handling our center pieces (square vases with floating cranberries, and a floating candle).  They are also handling our late night snack, a smores bar.
The reception site has a bakery on site so we are going through them for our cake which we already have an idea of.
We have decided on favors, but not purchased anything yet.  (small sealed jars with apple cider powerd in them)
We have the photgrapher picked out, but nothing is signed yet.
I have purchased my dress and veil.
My bouquet is finished, and am slowly collecting flowers for the other bouquets and bouts with coupons.
We have a DJ in mind.
    Garters are done.
We have all of the paper purchased for STDs, Invitations, Programs, and Thank You cards. STDs and Thank You cards are mocked up. Waiting on more details before I start on the Invitations.
The bridesmaids have chosen their dresses, but have not purchased them yet.
We have a plan for the rehersal dinner, a backyard BBQ.  Our families are both very casual.

My Maid of Honor has already shared her thoughts about a bridal shower with me, and I love it!  She wants to do a picnic theme with the checkerd table cloths and picnic baskets.

My DIY list so far consists of:
-STDs, Invitations, Thank You cards, Programs
    -All flowers
    -Garters
    -Bridesmaid jewelry
-Toasting Flutes for the head table (chalkboard paint on the base with each persons name on their flute)
-Seating chart (master list, arranged by name with which table they are seated at)
    -Card Receptacle (hollowed out log)
    -Favors

WOW!  I feel like we are REALLY Far behind. I'm kind of still trying to remember what it looks like (outside) at the end of September LaughingWe have the date (9-28-13), and are talking about where we will have the reception and ceremony, and what our colors will be, and that's it.  We've done a lot of pre-planning (ideas on paper), but nothing is booked.  I guess we better get on that Laughing

  • I wouldn't worry too much either. Most of my stuff is done because we were engged before, so most of DIY and ideas are done. But you have a year and a half! You have time!

  • I'm getting married Sept 1 2013.

    So far we have:
Booked a venue, caterer and ceremony site
    We also have an officiant

I'm currently looking for a band.

I don't want to do too much else this early incase I change my mind about things.

If I had to guess I'd say that our wedding colors will probably be blue and white because my FI and I both like them. Also since it's a Jewish wedding the yarmukles (little hats) usually match the wedding colors so I wanted to stick to something gender neutral. I don't think the guys would be stoked about wearing pink kippahs.
  • Wow!  Good for all of you!  I feel extremely unprepared at the moment!
We have checked out 13 reception venues and are making a decision this weekend.  Our date depends on which venue we go with but will likely be September 22, 2013.  We have selected our WP and that's about it... yikes!  What did all of you do next after chosing a date and a venue?

  • None.. Only brainstorming!

Ceremony space and your officiant, so you have the most important part taken care of.
Personally, I was able to lock in a lower rate on a block of hotel rooms on account of taking care of that 18 months in advance. Not the case perhaps for every hotel, but it's worth looking into if you have out of towners (keep in mind though that the guests likely won't be able to actually book until you're a year out). It's also one of the easier things to take care of that doesn't really require more than anything than a phone call (and signature on their contract, if that's their policy).
  •  I feel really behind.  My mom and I are going too look at our 1st choice Monday.  Not having a bridal party, only MOH and best man...

We have our deposits down on the dj, photographer, and hall. I've bought random items like our cake knife ribbons and tulle flowers for centerpieces. We are planning on about 120, ish people. I need to find a church. Neither fi nor I grew up in one.
  • you go girl!  I hope to be able to say all these things soon too!

  • Gosh you all seem so prepared, I'm starting to feel like I'm a little behind here, but with two jobs each and my finishing up school for my paralegal certificate I guess we can be excused?

We have our date (9/14/13) and the reception/ceremony site is booked.  Their "package" includes the catering, photography, DJ, flowers (bouquets, boutinieres [sp?], corsages for our moms, and centerpieces), invitations, response cards, place cards, reception cards, the cake, the limo, the hotel for the night of, an engraved guest book & pen, engraved cake server, engraved toasting glasses, champagne toast, the linens and a day of coordinator.

Technincally everything's booked already through the reception site, but I haven't met with anyone to really hammer out details (although they are all in my head).  I was waiting until we got closer so I don't change my mind 15 times.

We also have already picked out our colors - white and puple with maybe some pops of silver.  And our bridal parties are picked out, although I think my fiance stille needs to ask one of his groomsmen.

And of course I know what I want everyone to wear, but I refuse to go shopping until I've lost some weight.  My MOH lives 1000 miles away so we haven't shopped for them yet either.

We'll get there eventually right? Undecided
