Thursday Thread

I have checks people!

I ordered the pashminas for my bridesmaids through etsy.  I also ordered one for my FMIL (to keep the peace).  I'll probably order one for my mom down the line after we find a dress for her.  FI and I discussed what the groomsmen are wearing.  It was an interesting discussion.

NWR: I crocheted a hat and scarf over the last two days.  I feel accomplished.  And less stressed.  Up next is another set for my sister's birthday, and then after that I'm making some washcloths.  I haven't done anything in years but a friend recently inspired me to get back into it.  When I was a kid, I didn't have the patience.  Now I'm absolutely loving it!

Any checks for you ladies?  Anything exciting going on?  Anyone have a funny joke to tell?

Re: Thursday Thread

  • Yay for checks!
I'm always in awe of people who can crochet.  I've tried (I'm a lefty) and it always looks like a hot mess.
Last night I hung out with my FMIL and she nicely lectured me about being all over the place with wedding planning.  I needed it.  I have like 30 unfinished things on my list that I need to just start finishing.  We then went shopping for jewelry findings so i can finally make all of my bridemaids jewelry.
While we were out she insisted we stop into DSW and look at boots. (We helped them shovel snow a couple of weeks ago and she kept commenting on how i need new snow boots.... which i don't)  She ended up forcing me to let her buy me new timberlands.  I always feel awkward when she buys my things, especially expensive things but she won't take no for an answer.

I have also decided to let the bridesmaids pick thier own dresses.  All i am going to require is alfred angelo eggplant and floor length.  We have been dress shopping about 8 times and have not found anything they could agree on.

    Are you doing any DIY?

  • I work a 2nd job at an art center.  Our ex staff accountant was caught stealing over $164,000 in December.  It finally hit the press today after she plead guilty this morning.  I'll never understand why someone could do this.  She has young kids and I just feel so sorry for them.  She's probably facing prison time.

  • I finally send our STD's yesterday! Honestly, we just sent them more for fun because our wedding is so small and informal they aren't really necesary (plus, we don't want to post the date on facebook because then everyone will want to be invited!).

I still have LOTS to do.
I have no dress/shoes/jewlery ( going to try on dresses on 3/2)
I still have no wedding band (waiting for a mockup on a custom one. Mine has a really strange setting)
I have no one to do hair/makeup (the woman I had picked said no can do.. she has clients and won't canel)

Even with a TINY wedding, there is still so much to do!!

  • I'm not really a good DIY person.  I start lots of stuff and don't finish it.  And I get sloppy when I'm bored.  We're ordering our invitations ($140 for 100 invites with enclosures and TY cards), programs, and escort cards from VistaPrint (and probably a sign too).  That's as much DIY as I've done because I've had to mess with the formatting lol!

Crocheting is sort of a new hobby (not counting when I was a kid).  I also know how to quilt, sew (they are different), and cross stitch.  I'm just not patient enough to finish anything (probably why I was so excited about my recent progress).

I have a problem with completing stuff.  I've been surprised at how much I've done for the wedding.  I won't let myself check anything off the list until it's done done, and it's helped me a lot!
  • I'm also not a big DIY'er for the wedding, which is odd because in real life I love doing crafts but I get so worried I'll become a bridezilla if I start trying to do a lot of things myself. I get stressed easily and critique myself.

Also, yesterday I heard through the news that the hotel I have reserved rooms at and planned on inviting people to a drink at (informally) after the reception has been sold and will be re-named in July. It was a Holiday Inn, I'm from a  small town, so it was all that was available. I just worry its going to get junked up or the new name will be something awful. Oh well- these things happen and people won't judge my wedding by the hotel (hopefully).

I started cross stitching this stocking for Christmas and I am still working on it!! I started I want to say in maybe June.  I love cross stitching in my spare time but I have been super busy with wedding stuff!!

We finally decided how we are going to do our linens.  our chair sashes are going to alternate burgundy and black.  Also the table linens are going to alternate burgundy and black. Also the napkins will be the opposite color the table will be.
My MOH has burgundy dress and the BM have burgundy with a champagne sash. Sooo I am going to make a flower and feather (she loves feathers!) pin for at her waist where her dress is rouched!!
  • Hi girls. I'm in FI's hometown for his grandma's funeral today. I managed to sneak away for a couple hours and hunker down in the public library (the only place that has wi-fi) to get some work done. Of course I had to pop over and check on the boards. I'm bummed I can't read and respond to every thread, because the internet here is sooooo slow, I can barely respond to the emails that are piling up back in the office. At any rate, hope everyone is doing well. I hope to be back in full swing sometime next week. Hugs to you all!

  • Big checks: today I sent all my STD's (finally!) and yesterday I set up my catering tasting for next Wed.  I gave up on FI getting me addresses and just got the ones I could.  There are still 3 people on the guest list that won't get a STD because I don't have an address for them, but they're fairly low-priority overall because they live in town.  I know I need to get a move on with vendors.  I'll prolly have to turn super-bride here in the next month or so to get everything done.

In other news: my work is having a pot luck tomorrow to blow off steam, which just happens to fall on my birthday so I'm super excited about that.  We also have had really bad weather, slushy, icky snow sleet for the past two days, hopefully that clears up soon.
  • I had to put together my contracts for vendors and send them to the wedding planner today... and I am just now realizing I never actually got contracts for the photographer or the caterer. I gotwritten quotes from them but then when i made my decision i just called in he payment and forgot about asking for a contract... ooops! Definitely going to work on getting those!

Goofy:  WTF!  164,000?  I hope it was worth it because the fall out for her will not be good at all.  So sad for the kids :(

Boston:  LOL i am the same way.  I usually don't finish anything either which is why my FMIL pulled me aside to shake some sense into me.
