September 2013 Weddings

outdoor wedding & weather

I am having an outdoor wedding (ceremony only) at a country club in September. This past September it was cold and rainy on the day. Seeing as Wisconsin weather is so unpredictable I am somewhat nervous of what the weather could be like this year. We already plan on having a tent on standby in case we have inclimate weather but got to thinking what happens if it's downright pouring and thunderstorming??! I wouldn't think it'd be exactly safe to have people under a tent in lightning & thunder. Has anyone else thought about this that is having an outdoor wedding or am I just being overly paranoid?! thanks for any enlightenment!

I am terrified about the weather!!! I am having a wedding in eastern NC completely outdoors on the water. Last year it poured on that day too and there were tornadoes there about a week earlier... and there was just an oil spill there last week! Im just hoping mother nature gets everything out of her system before that day because the town has one indoor option and its a multipurpose room at a church. Not exactly my vision.

  • By the way... didnt mean to freak u out even more! Haha i think the best advice anyone has given me so far is that if it rains amd pours and whatever else happens at least it will be a memory and u should buy a pretty umbrella just in case for some cute dancing in the rakn pictures

  •  We're doing an outdoor ceremony Sept 7th.  Last year there was a heat wave that week, upper 90s and miserable.

We have a back up plan, if it rains there ceremony will be indoors, on the 2nd floor of the mansion (that we will not use otherwise).

  • We are doing an outdoor wedding September 1st and if it rains the only option is to have the wedding where the reception will take place and then during the set up of the reception everyone will be in the small cocktail area which wouldn't be a problem on a sunny day because they have an outside fire pit area which will be set up also for the cocktail hour.
  • We are in Ohio and I don't trust the weather AT ALL EVER, so we decided on ceremony and reception in the church.  If it is nice, we will be able to get some great pictures outside.  If not, we have ones we want done inside.

My only advice would be to have a backup plan - second location or maybe a tent with sides? Talk to the rental associate and ask what is safe and when they would suggest going in a building?

Big freeze curls framing my face like this; Inverted braid or Frech twist up the back. No flower. Veil attached to comb in the back at top of braid/twist.

  • I'm having an outdoor ceremony too but I live in Texas so I know it will be hot but I hope it doesn't rain last year on that day it was real pretty and nice I'm praying for the same thing this year

  • I was too paranoid to do an outdoor reception (I have to have my ceremony inside my church because I'm catholic).  But I'm sure the Outoor Weddings board has a ton of good tips for keeping calm as things get closer in addition to what the PPs have said.
  • oh I already found a fun umbrella in my colors. i suppose i'll have to look into whether the reception hall can be quickly converted if we should need to use it for rainy weather. thanks for the responses!
