Honeymoons!

christinajarman asked about honeymoons in the intro thread, but so it doesn't get threadjacked, I figured I would start a new one for it.

What are everyone's honeymoon plans or dreams?

FI and I are going to Disney World for a week, then going on a Disney cruise, and then heading back to Disney for two nights to relax (no parks, maybe a segway tour at Fort Wilderness). Two weeks in Disney, I'm stoked!

We haven't gotten that far yet.  Neither of us are interested in going to a beach or anything like that.  We're more interested in going someplace beautiful that is gorgeous in the fall with lots of things to do like hiking.  We took a trip to Asheville, NC last Labor Day weekend and it was one of the most beautiful and interesting places we have ever been.  We have toyed with going there again... or visiting Maine or Colorado.

We're going to Aruba -- this was the very first job I gave my FI, and he really ran with it -- did all sorts of research and found us a beautiful adult-exclusive resort. He did it so far in advance we were able to secure the penthouse suite. I cannot wait! We aren't taking a real vacation between now and then, so I know I will be SO ready for the HM!

I'm a total beach babe, and FI just wants to be away lol.  My mom is giving us her timeshare (Mexico) week as a wedding present, and we're toying with the idea of kicking in for a second week either in the Dominican Republic or Jamaica on our own dime.

We're not taking a child-free vacation between now and the wedding either so we'll definitely be ready for our first alone time in what will be 3.5 years!

I'm so jealous, I've been trying to convince FI to take me the december after we're married as a minimoon (or 2nd honeymoon)...

I love disneyworld! You'll love the segway tour through Fort Wilderness, it was way more fun than the segway tour through EPCOT (you're actually allow to speed). It's too bad they changed the minimum stay for the platinum plan, because I would highly recommend exploiting that plan for anyone's honeymoon

ooh and the new fantasyland expansion will be about a year old so hopefully it will be less crowded

I heard rumors that they were expanding the wizarding world, have you heard anything?

TIP: we stayed on property for the extra hour, but decided against paying extra for being able to eat at 3 broomsticks for breakfast, but we were still able to do so by asking the bouncer guy (they have a registered breakfast guestlist, but because the hall was empty they let us in... this was in May '11)

I was planning to go to South Africa for safari, with a side trip to see Victoria Falls, and then climb Mt. Kilimanjaro (it was the reason I chose Sept for my wedding, because the weather would be nice, the malaria should be nonexistant, and the animals should be out).

FI was resistant to climbing Mt Kilimanjaro on our honeymoon, but said sure... but after taking FI to China and cramming in everything you can possibly see in Beijing in 3 days (I tried to cram things I saw over several visits into 3 days as it was FI's first time to China) FI realized what it would mean to climb Mt Kilimanjaro on our honeymoon and now is flatly refusing... on top of that he no longer wants to go to South Africa... ::sigh::

I think now we're going to go to Rome, cruise the Greek isles, and visit Venice, but I'm a little concerned with the Euro and whether Greece will finally default/go bankrupt and whether that will cause a unrest...

We're trying to decide.  I want to go to Hawaii but because we're on the East Coast, the flights would take FOREVER.  We'd love to do an island somewhere, but it's hurricane season.  Now we're trying to decide between Disney World (where we got engaged) or Aruba.  Decisions decisions!

We haven't decided yet.  I am not picky, I don't mind if it is something beachy or mountainous.  FI hasn't been further than the UP for snowmobile trips (we live in southeast MI), and he has never seen the ocean.  So anything would be an adventure for him. 

Plans also depend on work.  I am hoping to have a full time teaching position by then, and it doesn't make sense to take a long vacation at the beginning of the school year.  So if I have a full time position by then, we will probably put the honeymoon on hold until a scheduled school break like thanksgiving or winter break.

We're going on a mini moon to gatlinburg because I have to be back at work the following Tuesday. I'm not going to complain about not getting a full honeymoon because our wedding date is sentimental.

I wish you could get it with DVC since we're planning on purchasing after the HM, but you can only go as high as deluxe. We'll just be getting the regular DDP this trip. We were thinking maybe Deluxe so we could eat at more signature resturaunts this trip, but decided it's wayyy too much food. Last time we had a build up of three quick services between us at the end of the trip.</div><div>

Ive also heard that if you mention its your honeymoon when booking at Disney, you get frees stuff haha! Definitely going to give it a try

<div>You can get free things (free dessert, free drinks, dressed up food/dessert with congratulations), but never count on it. It's all up to the cast member. They also have pins that say Happily Ever After which you can get at guest serives. They used to have Just Married buttons, but they seem to be phasing them out... I'm debating buying them on ebay because I hate the generic Ever After ones, but $7.50 each is the cheapest I've found them for.</div><div>

We haven't decided. Between me needing a new car, traveling to FL for a friends wedding 3 months before ours, trying to buy our first home and paying for the wedding, a honeymoon seems like a long shot. We would probably do a small trip for a few nights somewhere. We usually travel to a different city each year for a Hawks game, so honestly we'll probabky just do that, since we have to skip it this season.

We decided on Banff! I'm so excited - it's in the Canadian Rockies, and is supposed to be just gorgeous. We were thinking about Alaska, but I think Banff will be similar enough and a whole lot cheaper - plus, I love Canada. Alaska is crazy expensive! We'll fly to Calgary, and then rent a car and drive to Banff, stay there a few days and do some hiking, and then drive up to the other two National Parks in the area, Jasper and Lake Louise, stay there for a few days, and then head back to Calgary.

We are planning on taking out lil guy with us so we are also doing Disney.  I have tons of family in Florida so my Aunt said she would keep him a few nights so we can have some alone time.

We are aiming for French Polynesia. We haven't decided yet on Tahiti, Fiji, or Bora Bora. Coming from the East Coast it will be a really long flight...actually two flights. So instead of throwing a third flight in we might choose based on where you can go directly from LA. It will be a two week vacation which I'll need because I will have to save all my vacation days for a 2-week honeymoon!
