Why September?

Just wondering what everyone's reasons were for choosing a September wedding!

Re: Why September?

  • I always wanted to get married in the fall.  We got engaged last July and FI didn't want to wait all the way to the following September, but I really pushed for it! Septembers here are GORGEOUS and sunny (usually) whereas June (another month we looked at) is usually pretty rainy.

It's funny when you start looking at dates, how things come up ("oh, so and so is getting married that weekend, we have this this weekend, family reunion that weekend"...)
  • I originallly wanted an October fall wedding but October 5th and 12th were booked.  So I moved to the last weekend in September.  I'm glad I did.  It's usually perfect weather around here.

  •  Our wedding date Sept 7th is will be the 4 year anniversary of our first date. And Sept 7th falls on a saturday this year. seemed perfect.

  • Actually I wanted the first weekend in October but the hotel was booked for a wedding that date , the second weekend in October my sister is in another wedding and then later in the month it was too close to Halloween ... So we took the last date in September we could get ... 928.

  • We just loved the thought of a September wedding!!
  • Originally wanted later in 2013, but FI wanted August.  Funny that he waited so long to propose and then he just wanted a very short engagement.  I figured September 1st was a compromise.  Also its a Sunday, and since 95% of our guests are from out of town the labor day weekend seemed good too.

  • FI and I met in September and celebrate our anniversary in September.  I loved the idea of a late summer/ early fall wedding because the weather is perfect here.  Plus we got engaged in May and wanted over a year to plan and didn't want an August wedding or winter wedding.
  • I originally wanted late July early August and then my future SIL annouced she was prego and due Aug 8th so we pushed it out to Sept.  Cant have the best man running out or not show because his wife is in labor :)
  • It was the first thing Megan asked for.  LOL   (Honestly!)

We wanted some time that would be moderate temperatures so that I don't melt or freeze or people have travel issues re: weather. (wedding in Ohio, most of my family is in Texas)

  • At first thought, we both wanted spring, but seeing as I was studying for my CPA exams and am swamped at work February-April, I didn't want the added stress of planning a wedding in a little under a year. So spring was out.

Then we thought June, but my parents informed us that they were busy every weekend in June, except one. Which would have been the weekend before I would have to leave town for a week for training. So June was out.

FI didn't want July or August because having to be in a tux/suit during that time would have been extremely uncomfortable, which I understand. So summer was out.

Then comes fall. College football season. The time of year where every Saturday is football day and we must watch the Nebraska game. But what is this? A Saturday that Nebraska is not playing?! We must book the wedding that day! And thus, our September 28th wedding date was born.

  • We wanted summer weather, but everyone is always travelling, so Sept 14 is the perfect in between out here. People will be around, and the weather will be HOT.  Cool

And it won't be raining.  That was really the FI's only preference on the date.  No rain.

  • Fall is my favorite season, but I didn't want to interfere with college football (I might love it more than fall), so we were going to do with the last weekend in August, but all the weekends were booked, so we went with the Michigan bye week in September, which is the 28th! :)

  • Weather weather weather! My biggest factor was NO RAIN... *we live in NW Washington state*... I wanted an August wedding but a dear friend painted a picture for me, of getting ready in 85+ degree heat with no air conditioning (Practically no one has A/C over here!)
Early Sept is typically 70ish degrees and that sounds so wonderful to me!!

Yay! We aren't the only ones planning around college football!

A lot of my Wisconsin family is upset because they are playing Ohio State on the 28th, but it's not a home game for them so they decided they might be able to make it after all.

  • I originally wanted March but FI said absolutely not because of March Madness. He is obsessed with college basketball. So since September also has amazing weather, we chose that.

  • well i origianlly wanted a winter wedding. we had planned on this past january for the wedding. We got engaged in Aug of 2011 so thought that would work well winters in illinois are very unpredictable and both our families said no way. We played around with other months and none of them seemed fitting. Weather here is crazy  march thru may is rainy june thru august is super hot. november thru feb is iffy cause of snow so we had either october or september to chose from. Since we started dating in september we thought why not? so we picked the 14 and the weather will be perfect not to hot not to cold we are happy and our famillies agree
  • We (read I) originally wanted a May wedding.  Always wanted May, with Spring colors and tulips and everything is new and starting fresh!  We got engaged in April 2012, so it was just over a year to plan.  The problem was NOTHING was falling into place. FI couldn't find work.  All the venues we liked were booked. We discussed and decided it would be better for us financially to wait a few months.

We picked September 20th becuase it was my Grandparents wedding anniversary, it fell on a Friday, and gave us the extra time we needed to plan and save.

  • I absolutely love the fall and wanted to have a fall or at least semi fall themed wedding so I wanted September or October and we chose 9/28. The summer is too hot in Indiana and very unpredictable. In September the weather is still nice and even has the pretty fall leaves starting to fall toward the end of Sep/beginning of Oct so I'm hoping this year the leaves start to fall early I would love outdoor pics with the pretty fall colors in the background.

  • Why I love September..let me count the ways:

1)One of my favorite old school bands, Earth, Wind and Fire has a love song called September whose first verse begins with our wedding date like this "Do you remember, the 21st night of September" and it falls on a Saturday this year!

    2)My birthday is Sept. 15th

    3) My favorite color is blue like the sapphire that is the birthstone for September and my engagement stone

4)We got engaged in May and wanted over a year to plan and save

5)September isn't too hot or too cold and beautiful in Michigan

6)FI's family is from overseas and would have more time to plan their trip over

7)My FSIL who rocks got married in September too and blue was her wedding color

I'm sure there's more but that's all I can think of at the moment.  Smile

  • Hmm...my plan has always been if I were to get married, it would be on the beach so we had to work around that.  The tri-state beaches are perfect in fall because it's not too hot, not too much rain, and not as many people milling around.  Plus it's just barely considered off-season, so it's cheaper for guests to stay and play!

  • I'm getting married on Michigan-Notre Dame! Big faux pas for a Michigan wedding. However, we wanted to get married in August, but my FI's parents decided to go to Italy for 3 weeks, so with their traveling we pushed it to Sept to not rush it with their trip. Plus my FI graduates with his Ph.D. in May so we wanted to give it some lag time between graduation and the Big Day. I can say we picked the date before the football schedule came out, but it was still a disappointment.
  • We picked September by accident. By the time we got engaged we had been together just over 3.5 years, lived together for 2.5 years and owned a house together for 8 months. I didn't want to wait too long to get married, I was ready to get married over a year ago and refused to wait another year. Since we live and are getting married Florida and 95% of the guests are out of state he convinced me that any spring months were out of the question since people would need time to plan and save for their travel. We talked about June or July and that was ruled out since FI's Uncle, Aunt and their Daughter will be in Orlando for her dance competition at the end of June/beginning of July and staying with us most of the trip. We talked about diff dates in August but my 30th is in the middle and I didn't want the 2 to overlap too much. We ended up deciding that Labor Day weekend was the best choice since so many have to travel, it gives them the extra day to get home without having to worry about work and Sunday ended up being a lot cheaper than Saturday for everything from the venue to the DJ and Photographer.

Yay!  That's awesome.  I don't know if it will be our entrance song but it is definitely going to get played at the reception one way or another.  When I discovered that the date was in the song I was overjoyed that it fell on a Saturday.  I knew that wouldn't happen again for years so it was a great coincidence.  Other parts of the song also mirror our dating history like another verse that says: "<strong>Now December, found the love that we shared in September</strong>"  We began dating and fell in love in December 2011.  It's just meant to be.<img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />
