Wedding Wednesday

Are you a DIY bride? For you, does "DIY" stand for "Do-It-Yourself"... or "Destroy-It-Yourself"? What wedding projects do you plan on DIY'ing, in either sense of the term? What projects are definitely best left to the professionals?

Re: Wedding Wednesday

  • DIY (really it's done by my MOH, who's my sister and an art major, so WAY more artistic than me, and FIL who's a graphic designer).

    1) cardbox - mostly done (waiting to select pictures and to hot glue the fabric down)
    2) bridal hangers - mostly done (waiting to glue the wires to the hangers)
    3) vellum cover votives - still buying supplies (waiting on final guest list)
    4) STDs - pictures taken
    5) invitations, menus, programs - not even started
    6) centerpieces - designed (it's really simple a borrby lantern, with pillar candles, with hydrangeas in wide mouth pint mason jars).

    NOT DIY
    1) bouquets (I mocked this up so it's definitely feasible, but I think it will be prettier and will have more variety if it's done by a professional... mine had too much lisianthus all in one line.)

  • I am doing my cardbox (found it on pinterst)
Center pieces (with help from SIL)
Signs that LO will carry down (here comes the bride)
I will be doing invites, programes (we are doing fans) and thank you notes.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • Bridal hangers (almost done!)
Bride wine glass and Groom beer mug
Centerpieces (concept in mind, gathering supplies)
    Invitations
    Programs
    Coaster favors
    Cardbox
part of BM gifts (sugar scrub and glasses w/ their names)
part of GM gifts (beer mugs w/ their names)
    day-of bridal robe
    day-of BM getting ready gear
bridal emergency kit (slowly getting things for this)
    Ring bearer pillow
    Signage

Still debating on the bouquets and candy buffet.  I'm doing my own makeup - been practicing for a while and have a great technique down.

  • I will be doing as much DIY as possible since we are on a very strict budget. My plans so far include:
    card box
signs (for my girls to carry, pick a seat, mr/mrs)
hair clips for me and my girls
Coloring book for the kiddies at the wedding
    center pieces
    invites
    aisle runner
favors - Im thinking homemade jam maybe
And anything else I can think of lol!

  • lol i love the "destroy it yourself"
I'm nervous about doing DIY but there are several items I will be doing:

half of the centerpieces (we are doing two different styles)
    card box
something for flower girls to walk down the aisle with
    signs
potentially... personalized items for the bridal party

Hopefully they will all turn out great!

Just a stamp!  I ordered it off ebay from a rec from a bunch of girls over on weddingbee.

That's right, I'm doing this too.  Buying a stamp!

Ellie, the hangers are easy!  I just took 12 gauge aluminum wire (Michael's) and a pair of needle nosed pliers wrapped in medical tape (so as not to nick the wire).  I drew the names out on a piece of paper, put the wire over top and went to work.  I only needed the pliers to tighten up certain letters or to straighten an "oops" bend.  Use the paper name to make sure the name will fit inside your hanger before getting started!  I watched a bunch of YouTube videos to get ideas on how to shape the more difficult letters.

  • Oh my ladies!  Looks like a lot of us are DIYing our weddings!  A year from now hopefully we will all still have our hair!  :-)

    I am currently DIYing:

All centerpieces- All of the mason jars and trinkets have been purchased.  Will just need candle votives and flowers.

Our ceremony backdrop- I'm using multiple sets of french doors and then will drape muslin and burlap around the tops with flowers.  We have the doors, we just haven't decided what color to paint them yet.

All papergoods- STDs, invitations, programs, menu cards, etc.  The FI is in graphics.

Tissue paper/Muslin/Burlap pom-poms to hang in reception venue

Lanterns made with doillies (including dying them to specific colors)

Dessert Table minus wedding cake - Family is mostly helping with a lot of the baking.  We're doing a cookie spread in addition to wedding cake.

    CD wedding favors

.... and anything else Pinterest makes me feel like I NEED to do.  ;-)

I've always been somewhat crafy, but Pinterest has made me out of control.  My poor FI got on his computer the other night and complained that as soon as he puts the cursur in the web address bar it automatically loads Pinterest.  Ruh-roh.  I told him I would check to see if there was a Pinterestaholics Anonymous.

I made our invites/save the dates myself and our wedding map. Im also spray painting wine bottles white to spread around the reception with a flower dropped in them and diy blue mason jars with babys breath.making my own burlap runners, and candy buffett.

I was going to do a lot more (centerpieces, flower arrangements, cute diy rustic/nautical touches) but reading the already married knotties advice I dont want to stress out and stress my FI to the point where either of us will enjoy our wedding day. Instead I have done a ton of research before booking my vendors to make sure I get the best on my budget.

    Posted by mpickl[/QUOTE]

II am not sure if it is destroy it yourself or do it yourself because i have no actually started doing any of it yet

    1) i plan to do my centerpeices - they are going to be vases, and stones or something and they need to glow / be lit up - and some how i have to incorporate glow sticks and glow breacelets into the wedding reception -

    2) i have been informed by my parents that i cannot wear cuck taylors for the ceremony - so I am probably wearing ballet flats - then changing into chuck taylor's preferably red ones for the recetion that i may have to add glitter or something too

    3) favors as of now are going to be CDs, and the cases are also going to serve as the seating assignments - pick up on the escort card table - and they will have songs that have meant something to FI and I

    4) we are also doing goody bags for Guests that are staying at the hotel for when they check in ... still deciding what is going in them

    5) trying to find an awesome red / orange tie dye picture to use for the invites that I would like to design on zazzle - so far haven't found what i want

i am sure there are other things - like programs and everything like that - and yes we are doing to a choreographed dance at the reception - if you knew me and my family and friends it fits with us in a major way

<div>Great and easy just like Tay said: Took wire (we use 16g so it'd be easier to bend). We didn't wrap the pliers because we didn't really think the marks were that noticible. MOH freehand the names based on Lilafrances style, but modified it to suit our needs. MOH bent hers entirely by pliers to save her hands. I bent mine mostly by hand (I couldn't feel my fingers for several hours after) and adjusted with pliers as needed.</div><div>
</div><div>It was very cheap to make. OOK 200 ft 16g galvanized wire from Home Depot ($6.28). Dark wood hangers without the rung-thingy from Bed Bath and Beyond (5.99 for 5... I used a $5 off $15). </div><div>
</div><div>It was fairly quick to make. We made 9 wire-thingys in about 2-3h (about an hour a night). The hangers were fairly easy to drill. I don't know about the gluing.. going to do that tomorrow...</div><div>
</div><div>I was planning on doing a more detailed post when I was completely done with my DIYs.</div>
