Makeup Advice

I posted something similar on the Wedding Beauty board but didn't get much of a response. Has anyone heard of Jane Iredale makeup? The salon I want to book for my hair and m/u only uses this brand and I know nothing about it. I've tried searching for bridal reviews for it but can't come up with much. The only thing I do know is that there are a lot of salons that solely use this brand, so that means it can't be bad right? I'm curious how it photographs because it's mineral-based. My trial wouldn't be until next August. Would it be weird to ask for a trial now before I book them? I just want to make sure it photographs well and lasts all day. Any advice?

Re: Makeup Advice

  • I've never heard of it but I would think if a lot of places use it then it wouldn't be bad. I think asking for a trail now is a great idea. Waiting until next August for a trail might not be great because if you don't like it , it might be hard to find someone else at the last minute.

  • I agree, do the trial now, or just get your makeup done there for a different event. I have heard that mineral makeup does not photograph well, but do not know from experience.

  • I can answer this, or at least help with information.

I am a makeup artist, specializing in bridal work.  AND YES, usually mineral does not photo well.  See if you can get a list of ingredients.  Most of the MM have SPFs that reflect instead of absorb.
Hence a photo of you with a whiter face and your neck might have more color.  The reflection of the flash is usually what triggers a bad cast off your face.

My advice is to try many diffrent artists in your area.  I would ask around to see who is who.  If you have the luxury of hiring the best, do it.  It makes a world of diffrence in the end result.  Your photos.
I have had brides who used me and to save money some of their bridesmaids used their own makeup and in the "line up" shot of everybody, you can see who used me and who didn't.

Needless to say, you only have one shot at your big day.

  • I also want to add, that sometimes the salons that have makeup don't really have the makeup artists.  They might just be the hair girls that double as makeup artists whithout the proper training in wedding day makeup.
