Theme...frustrated and indecisive

I thought I had a theme set...I started looking at dresses and decor. When I started researching venues, I was finding myself drawn to locations that just don't seem to fit what I originally had in mind. I'm glad I have so much time left to decide, but if we need to start planning the budget, I'd better get something in mind soon...Anyone else having trouble deciding on one theme? Any ideas or advice?

Re: Theme...frustrated and indecisive

  • Go with what your personality is.....if you are more elegant do a black tie wedding, if more country do a rustic theme, if you love the beach do a beach theme, ect....

I love the country and a rustic style was my chioce.  I don't think your theme has to completely match your location.
  • I'm a beach girl through and through but my FI is more elegant.  We met in the middle.  We have a lose "theme" but I really didn't pick my dress based on it and we modified our colors to more what we wanted instead of the "theme" colors (nautical).

I think you should go with your gut and if that means mixing up the theme a bit, then go for it!  I doubt Aunt Millie is going to be judging that your theme doesn't match perfectly with the venue.  Good luck!
  • My wedding does not really have a theme. I choose colors that I love and went from there. The way I looked at it is that every party in our lives, can be a chance for a theme. My wedding however, I just wanted to be classy, formal, and simple. I am going with navy, grey and touches of green. Our reception will have our monogram on the cake, toasting flutes, napkins, uplighting, etc... but that is the only true theme we are going with.

    Good luck!

  • I've been having some trouble sorting my thoughts out as well. I feel a bit like everything is just being thrown together and won't quite have an overall "feel". I don't really have a theme but I feel my color scheme isn't fully being represented. I chose navy, raspberry and blush but the reception tables will be white flowers and white (or ivory) linens. I just don't know how else to tie it all together. I feel a bit overwhelmed. My mom assures me it will all come together.
So here is good luck to you! And I know what you are going through.

I've finally got it! I think what was throwing me off was the reception venue...it has sort of an old-fashioned lounge feel. Once I really got to thinking, I figured Mad Men would be vintage, fun, and definitely fit my sense of style! I'm so excited about this!

  • Girl... that will be lovely!!!!  I LOVE the vintage feel of Mad Men inspired wedding themes.  I believe there was a David Tutera episode last season with a Mad Men inspired wedding. You can totally pull it off.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
