Bridesmaids Dresses

I have 7 girls in my wedding. I want to start looking at bridesmaids dresses and I am not sure if bringing all of them is a good idea or if she bringing one or two would be better. I am afraid that having everyone there, there will be to many opinions and we wont end up finding one. Has anyone went bridesmaids dress shopping yet? Who did you all bring along?

</div><div>I have four bridesmaids, one of them lives out of state (I wanted to use a chain store to make sure the out of state bridesmaid wouldnt have a problem getting her dress).  I checked davids bridal online and picked out a few dresses I liked and I thought would go with the feel of our wedding, and emailed them to the girls to see what they thought.  This might be a good idea for you since you have so many girls.  Email them some pics to narrow it down first, then once you have a better idea of what you like, and they like, take all of them to the store.</div>

I'm of no help because we're only having one person stand up for us on each side.

From prior experience of being a bridesmaid 4 different times, I personaly enjoyed doing it all together.  That way all body types can be considered.  My favorite was when the Bride had us all pick separates as long as we kept it in the same color.  We did that through David's Bridal and it worked out really well.

  • http://www.weddingtonway.com/ has a cool feature that will let you (the bride) pick a variety of styles and then allow the girls to vote on what they like best. That might be a good starting point to get all of your girls on the same page (or at least in the same chapter) before heading to a store.

I only have 3 bridesmaids, and one isn't local, so really it's just me, my MOH, and one bridesmaid picking the dress (the third one gets photos and weighs in from afar).

  • I only have 3 and actually as of this morning all of there dresses are in ! When I actually picked the dress was the same day I bought mine... My sister was here so I had her try a few that I liked on. Two of the 3 including my sister are a little bit bigger than the third but they all have boobs too so I needed a dress that would go great with all of them. I picked the dress based on knowing it looked good on my sister so was sure it would look good on my cousin and my friend. My sister and cousin then ordered from Philly my friend here ordered it a week later. I had an idea of the look I wanted so basically only let those dresses be tried on to start. If you are only taking a few and they have different body types you might want to cover the bases by trying to have all the types reflected in who goes when you try them on

  • I have 5 girls. My original plan was to find a couple dresses from the same designer, same color, same length but different neck lines. I was unsure as to length I wanted so to save myself a headache, I took my mom and my MOH to try on dresses. This was so much simpler and less headache than all the girls voicing opinions. I will say, my original plan was that each girl could "choose" her own dress based on criteria from me, same designer, length, color material. With each one choosing what they felt pretty in. But I found a dress that seems to be pretty forgiving and flattering thus far...

  • I have every body type possible in my bridal party so I dont know what to do. A few girls have voiced their opinions of what they want and none are the same. Their dresses are going to be platinum (or shiny silver) which not many dresses come in that color so it narrows the selection down even more. My bridal party is also filled with a lot of opinionated girls making this even harder. Thanks for the advice I think I will pick out 2 or 3 I like and then take the girls to try on the dresses I pick then they can decide from there!

  • 4/5 of my BMs are married already so the process was pretty low stress for us. We looked soley online for styles. My only direction to them was shorter (we're getting married in Hawaii) and vintage inspired if possible. Although I found one on ModCloth that I liked better, one of my BMs found a dress in our color on Ann Taylor that's on sale plus we had a 40% off coupon. It ended up only being $60 for each girl!

There were 3 styles for the same dress (vneck, scoop, and strapless) so I let them choose. So relieved!
  • I started by looking on Davids Bridal website. I found a few I liked and I picked them out. No one seen them until they came in. I had my girls go to the store to be fitted but they didnt carry my style in the store so we had to order online.

</div><div>This is me exactly but I have 4. My Sister lives our of town as well as one of my other BM's.</div><div>My MOH and one of my other BM's were there for all the dress shopping, and well really they are there for all my wedding woes. I was lucky that the BM who lives out of town came down to visit her parents for a week and All but my sister were available to go dress shopping. I had previously narrowed it down and then we all went in and picked the dress that suited the wedding the best.</div><div>
</div><div>I'm finding my biggest issue is my style vs my MOH's style. She's very cutesy, loves bows and flowers and stuff where I'm a bit more classic and tend to stear clear of trendy cutesy stuff. Could be the age gap but could just be our different tastes. Regardless, getting her on the same page as me for the BM dresses was probably the most difficult.</div>

  • I have 6 BMs and 2 JBMs.  I picked out everything for them online and then emailed it to them to get their approval.  I didn't want to wait for them to choose nor did I want different styles or lengths except for the MOH. So I put an "opt-out" piece in the email so if anyone didn't like it they could reply and I'd keep looking.  Everyone loved my choice.  It worked and that's it.
  • I only have two and though we all live in different states, I got them both up here for a weekend last summer to look at dresses at David's Bridal so they'd both be able to order them from their local store or online.
  • I"m only having two girls and we just scheduled a Saturday in early February to hit the racks together.  We all have very similar tastes and they've told me that they'll go with whatever I decide, so I'm not expecting any issues.

  • I have 9 Bridesmaids! 2 Matrons of Honor and 7 BM's. They all have great taste and I currently live in Arlington VA so I'm having them all pick their own dress in any shade of beige ranging from blush to as close to as off white.  I've been a bridesmaid 9 times myself so I think this will work!
