Wedding Photography (and everything in between)

Long time lurker, first time poster! :) I was wondering number one-What is the "usual" for a photographer? As in, should they be printing your photos, or is the norm these days to simply have a thumb drive or CD of all of your (edited) photos from the photographer, including the ownership/copyrights of the photos? That way you then can make copies at your leisure/choose which you would like to have physical prints of? Number two-Has anyone heard of/used "Feather & Twine" photography? Their shoots are beautiful, creative, and not very "posed" and their top tier package includes a second shooter, bridal shoot, engagement shoot, boudoir shoot, 10 hours wedding coverage, and all edited high resolution photos on a USB thumb drive. What did your wedding photography packages include, and would you suggest using a photographer whose package includes the printing of photos? Thanks so much for any information you can provide! xo

The norm is to get a DVD of high resolution images with printing rights. I have never heard of that photographer. It really depends on your budget as to who I would recommend. My package included an E-pic session with DVD, 8 hours of wedding photography with 2 shooters, DVD and an album. You don't need prints when you have rights to the images.
  • I haven't heard of that photographer, either.  I think it is really important to use a photographer that has good reviews on Weddingwire and here, if possible.  Keep in mind their pictures on their website are their best choices, so it might not show a full picture of their body of work.

The price range differs depending on the experience, reputation, etc. of the photog.  The lowest I've heard of is about 1500 for a reputable photographer.  Most are more like 2500+.  (someone please correct me if I'm wrong:)

Our package is about 3,000 with two photographers, engagement photos and disk of same, and disk of wedding images with printing rights.

  • Thanks for the help, ladies! It sounds like what you get for the package is the norm...I was just mostly curious/confused on if there should be prints or not (I didn't care either way since I'm happy to print out my own), as long as you have the printing rights. xo

  • I have been really happy with my photographer. I went with Aravaggio Photography, and at the time I purchased it was $2200, but I think it is now $2500. I get two photographers, rights to the photos, 6 hours, an engagement session, a bridal session and a few other things. That is a great deal. I found her through referrals, and she is amazing. Feel free to look her up. I did not want Bridals so she did Save the Date photos for us instead. Jessica is amazing at lighting and not making you seem posed. I did run into many that were very expensive, but sometimes it is just not worth it when the quality is the same as someone a little less expensive! Good luck!
  • My friend used them, and her pictures and video turned out so perfectly! I would use them if I was getting married closer to the DFW area!
  • My photog did provide prints, along with a DVD of hi-res and re-touched images. I could go either way on the prints--I didn't expect them but I've used a few of them around the house.

I've never heard of the photog you listed but I do feel like $2500 is a median price for photographers. My pricing was all from 2010-2011 so it may be a bit more now.

  • I am a wedding photographer previously in DFW (not a fact widely known on this board) but I can assure you that just because they aren't mentioned or reviewed on this board doesn't mean they aren't any good. I have definitely heard of Feather & Twine and do love their work.

No worries of me being a vendor, though, because we are moving to North Carolina and I have just about finished all of my DFW weddings :).
