I think we're doing personalized notepads/pens in little fancy bags w/personalized ribbons.  Who can't use a pen?  LOL
We were going to do edible ones, but nothing really hit me like the pads/pens, plus we're having kisses on every table as part of the centerpieces & bowls of them on the cookie table.  Didn't want to do a candy buffet cause we have more than enough things to eat!  LOL

Ours is in Dec.  My place card holders actually double as favors, they're adorable little glass ornaments with "snow" inside.  I know I love new ornaments for the Christmas tree! :)  Also, since the favor boxes are pretty spacey inside, we're throwing in some of my favorite Lindt's truffles...the Limited Edition kind that comes out in the winter. :)

We are doing glass coasters, which I got on sale from the Knot a long time ago for 99 cents for 2. Each guest is getting 2, so a couple gets 4. Instead of pictures, we are putting a monogram of the guest's last name in the slot meant for pics, to personalize it for THEM. I'm attaching the table cards to them so it serves a dual purpose, it will also show them what table to sit at.

We did plastic goblet shaped glasses that were filled with our wedding color M&M's (our first initals are both M) and they were wrapped in tulle circles, tied with a ribbon and had a favor tag on them that we printed. It said thank you, our names and then our date. They all came in a kit we got at Wal-Mart, but you can also find cheaper ideas at WM as well. Such as little tulle circles, tulle bags, etc. Shop around.

We're doing small boxes of Whitman's chocolates, which we will wrap in ivory paper and top with a burgandy bow.

Do you have a theme? or colors? is there any element of the wedding that can double as a favor? (like the centerpieces) think about what time of the year it is going to be in.

personally about 5 minutes ago I just ordered cheap masquerade masks for my guests from mardigrasoutlet.com because my theme is phantom of the opera

for my sister's wedding (summer wedding) she bought cookie cutters that came with a little folded card that had a recipe for cookies on it. (their theme was that they were "cut out for each other") and instead of throwing rice or blowing bubbles as they walked out of church we all threw beach balls that were personalized with their names and the date.

We are doubling our centerpiece as favors.  we Have candles that have our name and date on them and they are also the favors.  We might do some mints of candy too but that depends on if we have the money and time.

We're doing decorated cookies (wedding cake shaped & snowflakes) that will be in a cute little bag decorated with a ribbon and a tag, as well as a snowflake ornament, as our wedding is in December.

I'm also going to be putting purple and silver ornaments all over the place, so those may also work as favors (depending on how much they end up being and how many I can get my hands on) as well as mints/kisses at each table.  FI lit up at the thought of a candy buffet, but we're not sure if it'll work in the budget yet...plus that's a LOT!

I found a company on here that personalizes shot glasses and candle votives so Im just going to use them to decorate my table setting with and let the guests take them home after! I think since its glass it gives it a more elegant touch, but shot glasses make it fun!

My grandma always makes her own glass ornaments. She takes regular clear glass ornaments. Then puts a drop or two of paint that she likes in them. Then you shake it up and let it dry. It's cheaper and a lot prettier. That way you can also customize the colors that you want. I hope that helps.
