Cakes -- Tabitha Ballard

I saw Tabitha Ballard on the vendor sticky for cakes, and it looks like one or two people had used her at that point.  I contacted her last night and her cake prices are VERY reasonable.  Just wondering if anyone has used her personally or known someone who has used her and how happy they were with the cakes.  They are GORGEOUS but you know, they gotta taste good! Tongue out

Thanks!

The two people I know of that used her here were both happy.  One was a regular whose wedding was last June and was the first one to use her I think.

@giselle -- what made you decide to go with someone else for the bridal cake?  Just curious to see what might have impacted your decision.

I originally was going to go with The Cake Guys because they are still really reasonable and have a great reputation, but Tabitha would be $200 cheaper than their price and we'd get more decoration and such.  Just want to make sure it's a good choice!

I had a tasting with her and yes her prices are inexpensive, the cake was just like a box cake and was nothing special to us and some of the tastings were not as moist as I would have liked and I didn't want a dry cake.  However Marissa disagreed with me on that but to each his own.  It wouldn't hurt to at least have a tasting.  I also got married at the end of 2009 and our tasting was in August of 2009 so things may changed since our tasting.

No... the reason is that I called off my engagement. So I talked to her and we are using my deposit for my wedding cake for my BD cake instead! She is great. So far I cannot complain.

Oooh, I can't help but recommend the Cake Guys.  At least do a tasting to compare.  We loved our cake from them and it was beautiful too.

Ditto the Cake Guys.  Most delicious cake, ever.

While I didn't go with either of these cake people, I can recommend that you try at least two.  It was no contest between our first cake person and our second cake person.  I was so happy that we went with Dallas Affaires but they are probably not within your proposed budget.

Ahh, I HATE box cakes!!!!  That is a pet peeve of mine.  We bake a lot in our family so I've never eaten many of them... but I hate how light and fluffy they are.  Well, Cake Guys has an open tasting tomorrow morning, so I'll go ahead and check them out and maybe I will compare with Tabitha's cakes after that.  If I love it though, I may not have to compare. Wink

Thanks so much everyone for your input!

I just happened to get on here today and see this post - I used Tabitha in November for cupcakes and a small 6 inch round cake for cutting. You should definitely do a tasting! I was not in love with how the cupcakes turned out (pretty small and didn't really fill up our cake stand how I had pictured), but they tasted good. I did however really like the top cake that she made for us- It tasted good and looked pretty. If I had it to do over I would have just have had her make a tiered cake. For the price, I think its worth it. BUT, if its in your budget I would maybe consider something more upscale.

I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?
