cheesecake?

I'm thinking of doing a cheesecake for our grooms cake and I'm wondering if anyone has done that and where you got your cake. I'm worried about the size of cheesecakes and the way they're usually cut - would we have to get a bunch in order to have enough (we're expecting about 100 guests)?

We thought about the Cheesecake Factory, but the bigger ones there are presliced, and surely not in skinny wedding-reception style, so there aren't very many servings per cake.

Any advice?

I was actually just at a wedding last night that had JUST cheesecake, because it's the bride's favorite.  I think hers was done by a friend as a favor, so I'm no help there, but it was a really neat touch.  They had three or four different types of cheesecake (presliced, which was nice), and three different sauces we could pour over it.

I will say that I don't think a lot of people ate it -- there was a LOT left over.  FI apparently doesn't care for cheesecake (I know, right?), so he was one of the ones not partaking.

I saw a picture in a magazine that had cheesecakes stacked up like a tiered wedding cake, it was really nice :)

I was a bridesmaid at a wedding where they had a large cheesecake as the groom's cake and I think more people at that than the wedding cake! It was topped with pecans- and they had 150-200 guests... Ill ask where they got it and repost on here :) Below is a picture (they had a texas chic themed wedding)

They got theirs from Candy Haven in Denton- they got a deal where they ordered the wedding cake and got a groom's cake free, but ended up paying an extra 50$ for the cheesecake (understandably).

    Hope that helps for consideration!

Yeah, it is kind of hard to know if it will be more popular than the regular cake, or if not many people will want it. I sure would! But FI and I both love cheesecake ...

I searched the board before I asked this, and the only person who wrote a review that I found mentioning cheesecake had gotten it at CandyHaven. But their website doesn't mention cheesecake, so I wasn't sure, and Denton is kind of far to drive to pick it up.

Maybe I'll just make things easier on myself and get a regular cake somewhere closer.

Candy Haven delivers with a nominal fee.  I met with them a few months back but we ended up getting our cake from somewhere else.

It's probably not at all what you are looking for, but Cheesecake Royale by White Rock Lake here in Dallas is AWESOME.  They provide desserts for upscale restaurants across the metroplex, so they have an enormous freezer that they keep fully stocked with all kinds of cheesecake imagineable, layer cakes, all sorts of things.  I can vouch that their service is excellent and their food is delicious.  We have had two cheesecakes from there and a German chocolate cake.  People raved about both and their prices are great.  Like I said, probably not what you were asking for but just thought I'd throw it out there for a more economical approach.  (It would also be a great idea for an easy RD dessert)

<div>If you both love them, I say go for it!  Especially if you're only having it for the groom's cake, you'll have plenty of options for your guests.</div>

I agree.  Plus, most of the time (at least with the bakers we met with) groom's cakes are not made to serve nearly as many as the bride's cake.  Our grooms cake will serve about 60 and our bridal cake will serve 115-130, so I think you can definitely get away with less servings than 1 per guest.  I can't imagine anyone going back for seconds on cheesecake just because its so rich, and as PP have already mentioned, not everyone likes cheesecake.  Wedding Wire did have reviews for Cheesecake Factory and said their service and product for weddings was excellent.  Maybe with less servings you could get away with the cost of Cheesecake Factory?  They do have some pretty tasty cheesecakes if I may so so myself. ;-)

angelsong21 - thanks so much for the help! I like Cheesecake Royale's selection and pricing, and I like that Romano's has cheesecake bites, which might be easier to serve. Two great options! Maybe we will have cheesecake after all. :)
