Favors

favors or no favors

I'm having a tiny crisis. I just found out the church we are having the ceremony/ reception at won't let us have wine as a favor even if people don't drink it. I'm desperately looking for an alternative and am leaning towards a small pot and flower seeds.  But as I do research and calculate costs I'm starting to feel that this could be a place to save money. I'm on a tight budget so its very tempting (I would be saving around 100-150$). I no its not necessary but does it look cheap if i don't do favors????? Help!!

Favors are definitely not necessary.  If you do decide to do them, do something edible.  Little knick knacks and stuff tend to get left behind or thrown out.

  • I have small cards printed up thanking our guests for coming to the wedding/receiption. That is all the favor I'm doing.

I only remember one favor I recieved at the many weddings I"ve attended - IMO you really don't need them.

  • As a guest - I never really notice the favors at weddings.  I can remember them from a couple weddings, but it was never anything that really altered my experience.

I didn't do favors at my wedding.  I intended to originally, but I just ended up not having time to put anything together.  I don't think anybody missed them.
  • We thought about doing a donation to a charity rather than traditional favors but we've decided to go with playing cards. Planted flower pots might be a hastle for any OOT guests or for someone who has a black thumb. Good luck!

  • How about donating to a charity in lieu of favors?  Here is some more insight...

    What are YOUR thoughts?
  • im having trouble trying to decide on what to do... I hate cheesy things that people may throw away...I saw on Etsy alot of people are making Cake pops as favors!! I thought that was super cute...but is that enough? I was thinking ill do something cute with mints or candies in tins at each plate and when they leave have cake pops out for everyone to take one... what do yall say?

I dislike favors of any kind.  I don't want or need a little bag of candy, a koozie, a candle, a picture frame, etc.  Just save your money, no one will notice.

Regarding donations to charity -- this is not a favor to your guests, it's a favor to the charity and smacks of self-aggrandizement.  And it's tacky to tell people what they aren't getting (in lieu of favors...).

I think I would have to disagree with the idea of not giving favors at all and here's why, your friends and family will be giving you gifts, maybe even money, incurring into expenses like, their attire for attending your wedding, travel, and for the ladies, possibly getting their hair done at the salon.  And did I mention accessories?

A favor is a small token of appreciation, after all, were it not for their attending your wedding, the event wouldn't be much fun, would it?  It would only be the officiant, you and your groom and a lot of empty seats...

As a wedding planner, I would suggest at least giving inexpensive favors, you could try to buy most supplies at wholesale and assemble it yourself.  You could also ask your bridesmaids to lend a helping hand and if you are so inclined, your groom.

Here are some useful links for making DIY favors, and remember, a nice gift doesn't have to be expensive, but it should be thoughtful. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif" border="0" alt="Cool" title="Cool" />

  • I definetly agree with the charity thing, not a fan....but I sord of agree that favors are not needed. Hmmm.

  • I am glad that I found this post. I was debating the exact same thing. Thought of doing about 1/2 the amount of favors and placing them on tables and not at every seat so then those who actually want them can have them and those who don't I didn't waste any other money.

My sister didn't do favors at her wedding and I didn't even notice.  I won't be doing favors unless I am able to budget in a photobooth- then the photostrips will be the favors :-)
