Favors

which favor should I do?

Ok, so we're having an outdoor wedding with a "rustic nature" theme.  We're definitely doing CD favors, but wanted to do something else as well.
I am debating on doing arborday.org charity favors where you donate money and the foundation will plant a tree per guest.  This goes great with our theme.
On the other hand, I thought lottery scratch tickets would be soo fun and different for the guests, but it doesn't go with the theme at all.  I could wrap it with our colors and maybe give it a "rustic" look.
Which would be better?

Please don't do the lottery scratch tickets.  These go perfect with the shotglasses that say "I went to John and Jane's wedding and all I got was this damn shot glass."

sorry personally i don't like cd favors because if i don't like your music tastes i won't listen to it. so it may take you a lot of work to make them but guests may not keep them.

as well the charity thing is a bit controversial because it's not really a gift for the guests. i donate to charities too but i wouldn't do this for a wedding favor. if you want to stay with the nature side of things. i've seen some ideas online about seeds you can give to guests so they can plant them in their garden. or better yet give your guest a little pot with soil with a little plant in it or seeds. if the charity is really important to you maybe have a little note on the favor that indicates the charity and how you donated an amount under your wedding.

i don't mind the lottery ticket idea but i don't know. it's something my mother would give me as a stocking stuffer i don't really see if was a classy wedding favor.

Like the theme, but I would keep thinking about the favors. Lottery cards seem kinda hick to me, and donations are not gifts. I'd be a little put off by that as a guest. There are tons of great outdoorsy type favors you can do. Ditto about the seed packets or small plants. I've seen people put all kinds of things into little terra cotta pots and give them out. You could do all natural soap or lotions, too.

Instead of having trees planted by them in honor of your guests, how about you get itty bitty trees for each guest as their favor?  That way, they can bring them home, plant them, and watch them grow.  If any are left behind, not a big deal, you can plant them in your yard!

Umm I wouldn't do cds at all. Just because you like the music doesn't mean your guests will. Look at the top of the boards page it gives a list of not so good favor ideas.
With that said; We are also having a rustic wedding. Ours is being held at an old barn. Anyway as our favors we are giving out lantern candle holders. They were only $2.00 each. So I would save your money on the lottery tickets & cds.

Here is a webiste lanterns like this are on http://www.creativeweddingfavors.com/luminous-lantern-wedding-favors-ka14006.html

Thats just one of many websites. Just type in lantern wedding favors.  We got ours at a wholesaler in Lancaster,PA

CD:  Don't like it.  They're usually nms in music, and I throw them out pretty quickly.

Donation:  Bad idea.  That's not a favor for your guests, no matter how worthy the cause.

Lottery Ticket:  I'd think it was cute.
Favors that kind of, IMO, would fit with a rustic theme:, how about cookies cut in the shape of trees?  How about caramel apples?  How about little bottles of maple syrup?  How about packages of trail mix?
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146

hmm.... Thanks for the input, ladies!  I'm going to think of some other options.
I thought about the little trees idea, but a lot of my guests don't have yards or own condos and wouldn't have anywhere to plant them.   Those lanterns are wicked cute (can you tell I'm from Mass)...maybe we could do that (although we're not allowed to have candles at our venue).
And I know a lot of people say no to the CD's, but we're doing them anyway because my Fiance insists on it.  Besides it's not the favor, it's just another little gift we want to give.  :)

Depends on your guests. I would personally choose lotto scratch offs instead of cd.

What about tulip bulbs? Even if they live in a condo or apt. they could plant them in a pot.

Oh nice about the battery operated candles for the lanterns!  I didn't even think of that.
I've also been contemplating doing leaf shaped cookies or cookie cutters instead, because it goes with the theme.  I think it'd be cute!

I would not do Lottery tickets. And for one reason only what if they win big. It might be very selfish but if it was  more than a couple grand I would want a cut cause I bought it. Just something to think about.

As my fiance has bitterly quipped, "The lottery's a tax on the stupid."  I of course don't think you're stupid, but many non gamblers share similar sentiments. Don't buy scratch offs. It's a waste of money. Don't do a charity either. People will mock the scratch offs and roll their eyes at the charity.. What about giving guests mini potted plants or trees?

I would leave your CD on the table and be annoyed that you thought announcing your donation to a charity was a gift to me.  Edible favors typically go over best so your cookie idea would be the best so far IMO.

Edit: the lanterns are also adorable!
