Beer Mug favors. Yep. You read that right.

So me and my man LOVE craft beer. Heck, we're having a beer tasting in lieu of a cocktail hour. Our reception is in our friend's barn, and she doesn't want any glasses use that could break. So, we're ordering clear lucite mugs that we can personalize. They will be used at the reception and will double as favors.

What the heck should I have printed on them?

I've seen 'Eat. Drink. Be Married.' and that's about all that doesn't make me gag. No hearts. Clever but not trashy.

Help!

Re: Beer Mug favors. Yep. You read that right.

  • If you engrave anything on them, I'd try to think of a funny, non-wedding saying to put on there. I wouldn't really care to have a beer mug at home that said something about somebody else's wedding, KWIM? Especially if I planned on using it.

Do your guests like beer and will they have use for a beer mug at home? Are all your guests 21 and over? (I think it would be weird to give a 10 year old a beer mug as a favor, for instance).

I agree with everything PP said.  I don't drink beer, but FI does, so I wouldn't mind getting a beer mug as a favor because I know it's something he would like.  Are you offering a non-beer drink at your "cocktail hour?"  I don't drink beer, so I wouldn't drink anything (possibly not eat anything either if I didn't have anything to drink).  Since your wedding is September 2, apple cider would be good, look similar, but may be pricey.

If you want to do a beer mug as a favor, I wouldn't plan on having the guests use them during the reception.  People generally use more than one glass during the evening, and then there's the whole issue of taking home a dirty beer mug.  You're better off using disposables for the party, and giving out clean glasses at the end of the evening.

Yep.  I'd be the one standing there holding my purse and nothing else.  Peavy also makes a really good point.

  • We'll have lots of n/a options that are yummy - punch, root beer, lemonade and tea.

We're ording twice as many mugs, so people can take home a clean one, and also a rinsing station for in between beers.

Good point about generic artwork. What about the outline of the barn and mountains?
  • I'd go with a graphic.

But, in all honesty, I would never want a glass as a favor (and one of my best friends did this, and 40% of people left theirs behind). She did it for water. I would be igged out by beer and having to rinse my own cup at a wedding. Also, having random, unmatching glassware drives me bananas... emphasis on glassware.  I wouldn't use a plastic cup at my own home.

I did get a coozy once which I did take home and use all the time... and it was personalized with their wedding info, but whatever, it's a coozy, they are cheesy already. A nice bottle opener is another option for favors.

Why can't you have glass in there? What about plates?  Things can break, doesn't happen a lot.

This!  We probably wouldn't take them home.
  •  I love the idea about the barn graphic. It's a nice reminder of the wedding without bashing you over the head about it. I received a wine glass favor once, and it had some mushy love quote etched on it. It was sweet, I thought of the wedding sometimes when I drank out of it, but it wasn't plastered with anything about marriage. PS - we love beer too, and we're thinking of giving out FI's homebrew (and home rootbeer!) as favors! There's always going to be someone who doesn't like what you pick. Ignore the haters.

  • I love the idea of beer mug favors!!! My man is a beer lover but I'm not too big on it, but I would still love taking home a beer mug from a wedding, I feel that it's very personalized to you so it makes it more special to remember from my point of view if I were a guest receiving this. I would go with a graphic of a barn in the mountains rather than a love quote. Pictures bring better memories than gushy sayings :) Cheers!
  • Wow ... I thought the beer mug favor was a FANTASTIC idea!  It's all about you and your day, right?  And I'm betting you know your guests better than most anyone else, and if you think they're down with it, then I say go for it!  We are actually going to do something similar for our wedding and for us it makes perfect sense.  My fiance is a rugby player and we're getting married during the 45th annual Ruggerfest in Aspen in September.  Rugby boys like to drink beer, our friends and family all enjoy a good pint, so this was the perfect idea - my friends were actually the ones who pitched it, so I know they'll be taking them home.

Since ours is a destination wedding and most everyone is traveling by plane to get there, we are going the route of food-grade silicone for our mugs.  You can order them here (www.silipint.com) and have them personalized.  Our stationer created a bride/groom logo for us (he holding a rugby ball, me holding a backpack to represent my love of the outdoors) and we can't wait to see the finished product.  Silipints might be something to consider if you're at all concerned with breakage.

    Good luck!
  • We are doing Pint glasses for out wedding, and we are using our date, names and that its a wedding on it.... Most of our friends are way laid back and partyers, so I have no doubt that they will be used by many of the attendants. Personally, I would love something that was both usefull and a keepsake/memory from a friends wedding. I have some friends that made concert-type tshirts for their wedding... I would wear the heck out of that! Go for what suits you!
  • Mugs are ordered! I did a super cool barn/mountains graphic. I even left a place so people can write their name on the silkscreen portion with a pen (didn't want permanant marker in case they want to wash it off).

Me = happy! Now where's my beer?

*hi five* to all my other beer lovin sistas!
  • Excellent!  Would love to see pictures!  :-)
