Lotto Tix?

I'm having a casual park/BBQ wedding. We're having horseshoes, bocce ball, smores, donuts and a dessert table. Since there are going to be so many sweets at the reception, I didn't want to give out edible favors. But I wanted to do something fun/casual.

I want to do lottery tickets. Everyone loves scratching them off, right? And some of them will win money. I'm thinking it will be a favor that no one leaves behind (especially since I plan on putting them in envelopes and using them as table cards)

Is it a step too casual though? Is it tacky?

I don't like it. Personally, I think lotto tickets are a waste of money, and then of course some people will win money and others won't. If you want to do favors you should choose something that everyone can enjoy.

If you're doing a BBQ and having lots of sweets, why not do savory favors? BBQ sauce in little jars, gourmet popcorn in small bags or something local that people can take with them.

I don't like lotto tickets as favors for weddings but some people do.  As a guest though, I'd prefer something else.  Personally, I think the dessert table is favor enough although I love all the PP ideas also.

Personally, I'm not a fan of favors that aren't edible, and I think lotto tickets are a bit on the tacky side.

I don't have a problem with lotto tickets but keep in mind  that the lottery is gambling so some people might have an issue with it.  They may not say anything to you about it but will either leave them behind (then hey you get to scratch them off) or destroy them (then wasted money on your part).

I guess it's up to your crowd.  If you have religious friends or families, they might not want to see you encouraging gambling by providing the lottery tickets.  Yes, I'd think they were sort of fun and unusual, but I can think of a bunch of my wedding guests either being offended or appalled.

I'm in the minority on this, but I think a lottery ticket is pretty cute.  It's certainly more fun than a monogrammed koozie, or a picture frame so tiny that no picture will actually fit in it, or a single coaster, or an unmatched martini glass.

We're doing lotto tickets with a label on the glassine envelope that says "Lucky in Love"...including personlized penny. This is where I got the idea:

I went to a wedding recently and that was the favor. I'd say a lotto ticket is better than the donation favor (if you had to compare it to something), but I was still a little disappointed (probably because I didn't win anything! haha).

There's probably a lot you could do with the BBQ theme..
You mentioned smores - what about a smores bar with different chocolates, marshmallows and toppings (although that could get a little messy...)? I also saw somewhere (can't remember where) where the favor was a miniature smores kit that B&G put together. I know you said you didn't want to do another sweet, but that might be something fun to take home with them...

This exactly!! why give guests things they will never use...everyone enjoys scratching off even if they dont win..This is your day, if you want to do lottery tickets i see absolutely nothing wrong with that!  I cant imagine too many people having a cow over scratch offs.  But hey maybe my crowd is much more laid back than others

A friend of mine did lotto tickets as her favor, and it was a formal wedding.  Everyone there thought they were a great favor, and so did I, even without winning on mine.  I would much rather have a chance to win something than a candle, mints, jorfan almonds, etc.  And everyone who did one was super excited to walk away with money as a favor.

Honestly, no matter what favor you do, there will always be at least one person at your wedding who doesn't like it.  And edible or not, there will always be people who leave it on the table.  We had a photo booth at our wedding, and at each place setting we had photo strip frames for everyone, plus they got a copy of their strip.  Everyone loved the photo booth and said it was such a great idea.  But we did have some guests who never went in it, so technically, they didn't "take" their favor.  But who cares, its expected, and everyone who did use the booth loved it.

I'm with Mysticl. Are you having kids at your wedding? Keep this out of their hands. I doubt anyone would say anything about it but you never know. Contributing to a minor gambling would be bad.

Suz, no one's going to jail because a kid picked up a lottery ticket.  My dad used to buy scratch-off tickets sometimes and let me and my sister scratch them off.  I assure you we haven't led lives of crime and debauchery.  Sis isn't a stripper in Vegas and I'm not down to my last dime in Reno.  It's like alcohol and kids--if an addiction is involved it's harmful, but exposing kids to its existence isn't remotely bad.

To OP, I think it's one of the few favors I would actually enjoy.
