Non-edible favor ideas

Hi all

first, let me start by saying, I KNOW everyone here seems to think that edible favors are the only way to go.  I get it.  You don't have to say "go edible...  that's the only decent favor idea that won't get thrown away".

With that said.  I am having a wedding cake and a dessert "bar" with cookies, brownies, and other assorted candy and sweet items.

I really don't want the favor to be edible, unless it was something like a small honey jar.  (I've looked into that, its out of my price range, at least from what I can find).

Does anyone have any other ideas for useful favors that are not edible?  I get that things like koozies are tacky and get thrown away.

Any other non-edible suggestions?    Or at least a non-candy/chocolate/truffle style edible?  (Like something that they could take with them and store or consume at a later date without worrying about spoiling? (like honey, but not honey?)

Any suggestions would be helpful !

thanks

Re: Non-edible favor ideas

  • Before we settled on our favor, we talked about a drink mix like hot chocolate or hot cider or about providing something like a small bottle of wine or soda.  We briefly entertained the idea of maple syrup or jelly as well, but didn't want the people that flew to have to worry about sizes or leaks. We wound up going in a different direction once we decided on a motif and color scheme - handmade Christmas ornaments in four different styles - but we knew that doing so would appeal to our group.

If you are offering a dessert bar, though, you may not need a table favor.  You might just want to place a small empty box or bag at each guest's seat so that they can take a treat home from the dessert assortment.

  • I think in your case I would just skip favors.

We're doing cupcakes as favors -- we aren't having wedding cake, but are having a "dessert bar" type thing.  If people want cake they can eat their cupcake, and if they want to take it home they can do that too.

I like the idea of doing a drink mix (tea bags, coffee, cider mix, hot chocolate mix).   Honey or Jam are good too -- maybe you could buy the jars and fill them yourself to cut down on cost?

But honestly, it's okay to skip favors.

  • We can't do edible favors, unless they are commercially done and I don't have the budget for that.  I did find an etsy store that does small candles (about the size of the smallest glass jar at Yankee candle).  Only they are in small metal tins with a lid.  Included in the price is a custom designed label for the lid.  Tons of scents to choose from ( I'm doing a mild scent called Oatmeal, Milk and Honey).

$5 bills - none of those will be left behind.
  • i did a set of 6 wine charms for each guest (italian food and wine sort of themed wedding).  each charm means something different about FI and I.  of course i forgot that each couple will end up with 2 identical sets. whoops. i might change this to a 'one per couple' favor. we also have a little 'flower' of jordan almonds to keep with italian and greek tradition.  we have italian cookies, cannoli and our cake as dessert, so the last part of our favor is take home boxes =)

personally, i think we went a little overboard. (the take home boxes were an add-on when we realized our venue HAS to serve a dessert that isnt our cake - weird, but whatever.)

i think in your case, the take home boxes would be a great idea....if they're not already included in your dessert bar plans.  one of my friends' weddings was pretty creative...he's a chef, and he made his own spice mix to put in jars for everyone.
  • If you are interested we can do custom coasters. For a bigger crowd I'd only charge $3 a piece. We can put an engagement photo or just any nice photo with your name and date of your wedding! Let me know!

We were having problems coming up with a non-edible favor also and found this idea on this website somewhere.  We are doing the $1 scratch off lottery tickets in an envelope with a penny to scratch it off with.  I had stickers printed to put on the envelopes that says "luck in love. Our names and our wedding date"  I am doing brown envelopes and the stickers are green with brown printing since those are our colors.  Good luck!
  • look at their favors section as they have so many varieties to choose from:

We are also doing the $1 lottery tickets with the penny. However, I can't seem to find the 2012 pennies anywhere. Any ideas?? In addition, we are also having individually wrapped 3 tiered cake cookies for each guest.

    Thanks.

  • My wedding is black and white with touches of blue. Our flowers are blue orchids and some type of white flower. For the favors we are doing a candy buffet and homemade scented candles with orchid flower inside of it. The candles are also going to double as part of the centerpiece.
