I'm having the hardest time trying to decide if I want to do a candy bar for favors or not. I have a friend, her brother just got married. They spent $250 on the jars and another $500 on candy. They are going to sell us their jars for $100 (I believe there are 7, they are big and really pretty) but I can only find 2 good bulk candy websites that have the colors I'm looking for. I also feel like $750 on candy for guests is a lot, they had about 200 people. So I have a couple questions, hopefully you guys can help me out!
What have most people spent on candy? (we are having around 150-200 guests)
What types of candy have you guys gotten? I've seen the "mock" m & m's and the sixlet candies. What do you think about rock candy and those candy sticks, I don't even remember what they're called.
How much of each type of candy did you get? (there will probably be around 7 different types)
I know some people may think "do whatever you want with whatever types of candy you want", when it comes down to it, I'm going to do what I want...just looking for some advice of what people have done in the past and had success with.
Thanks in advance!!
Re: candy bar help!
good luck
There are lots of inexpensive ways to do a candy buffet.
1. Get your jars from thrift stores - if you start early, you will be able to find what you need. They always have lots of different, interesting shapes. You shouldn't need to spend more than a few dollars per jar.
2. It will cost more to get candy in your wedding colors than it will to have assorted colors.
3. Candy keeps a long time (at least 6 months, even chocolate), so stock up on candy when it goes on sale after the major candy holidays - Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day and Easter.
4. If you order candy online, you have to pay shipping. Instead, try Costco, Sam's Club, Target, the dollar store, etc. Watch for sales at CVS and Rite Aid.
5. Papermart.com is a great source for cello bags, favor boxes, ribbon and other packaging material.
6. The amount of candy depends on the size of your container, so don't get anything too big. Figure about 1/3 pound per person.
