Taste of our favors are, bland-what to do to make them "not so bland"

we are doing homemade cake balls for our favors-2 each per box, strawberry and champagne flavored. We made a test run to see how they would taste and they still seem, bland, to me.

Any suggestiions on what to add that might make them not so bland?

Lady Rusa,
I have a really good strawberry cake recipe where you actually cut up fresh strawberries and use some strawberry gelatin in the cake mix.  PM me if you are interested in the recipe and I will try to find it!  The recipe also includes instructions for homemade strawberry buttercream frosting.  Seriously delicious!
