shot glass favors for wine/beer only reception?

Is it tacky to give shot glasses as favors when we are having a wine/beer only reception?  My MOH suggested we do wine glasses instead (a great idea, especially since the wedding is at a vineyard), but I am kind of set on the idea of having a single flower in a short shot glass at each place setting--I think it would look so cute!

Nothing wrong with your idea. A favor is a thank you to your guests, and depending on the favor, doesn't have to be used at the reception.

You could compromise and give each guest a champagne flute, which would be a tall & thinner version of the shot glass and still hold the flower at the place setting.

um... I think it would be weird as hell. It'd be like: "sorry, no cocktails for you, but here's a shot glass so you can make your own at home"

I do love the cute idea of a single flower in a shot glass at each seating. Hmmmmm.... What if you gave them a tealight holder instead? And use a slightly taller vertical glass version that could hold a flower.

Also, you can use one of those tiny tiny little port glasses that are a small version of a normal wine glass. That could work well!

    Hope this helps!

To be honest, I think shot glasses in general are a little tacky. It's a little "sorority formal" instead of wedding. I think personalized wedding glasses could be cute and maybe some wine charms as well.

ehh unless you know your guests are big shot drinkers I wouldn't waste the money on something that most people wont use.

People don't necessarily have to use the shot glasses! We were also thinking about doing shot glasses as well but only because my fiance and I are shot glass collectors. Just because you pass out shot glasses doesn't mean that you or your guests have to be big drinkers, it is just another gift that is tiny (also affordable) that are easy to keep as a keepsake. As stated by someone above, the way you present it will affect the way it is taken by the guests. Maybe put a flower or some candy inside the glass with a ribbon to match your colors or something to tie it in. If you are still worried that it may be taken the wrong way, maybe have your DJ or someone explain the significance of the shot glasses - like in our case we want to just say a little something about it and how we've been collecting shot glasses seperately for years and now this shot glass will be the first one we are collecting together. Or something haha.

In short, the shot glasses are a good idea, there are not trashy and they do not suggest that you and your guests are drinkers. It's just a keepsake!

    agreed.

also, i'm not sure i would do any kind of personalized glassware.  maybe get you and your FI personalized shot glasses or wine glasses, but i would rather not have glasses with someone elses name and wedding date on it.  i would never use that.

since you're getting married at a vineyard, i tihnk a wine glass would be a cute favor.  you could buy the stemless glasses if you want them to be more shot glass like.  you could get ones that aren't plain (etched glass or something).  i just wouldn't pay the money to have them personalized with your wedding date or name, because thats really only cute/reuseable for you and your FI.

Not tacky but just a bit odd since your wedding is at a winery and you're only serving beer and wine.

Since your wedding is at a vineyard, why not do something wine related.  How about mini bottles of wine from that vineyard?

Although the idea of a flower in the shot glass sounds cute, I have visions of it being a pita.  Since in actuality the glasses aren't that big, they would have to filled almost to the top with water.  As soon as a guest moved one, you've got a mess on the table.

Whatever you do, don't do anything "personalized" like one poster suggested.  No one wants a shot glass, beer mug, or wine glass with your names or the date you got married. They'll either be left behind or guests will take them to not appear rude and then toss them as soon as they get home.

Well, not to be rude, but I have to agree with it when people say shot glasses are tacky, especially at a vineyard.  There are SOOOO many great ideas you could do for favors since you have a vinyard wedding.  I went to a wedding last year and they had personalized wine stoppers/corks....SO cute, and would fit your theme perfectly, and I looked at websites and they are very affordable.  I can see why you think it would be cute, but sometimes cute ideas end up looking tacky.  If you dont like the wine cork idea, go for the wine glasses, that would also be very cute!!! : )

I would suggest doing a personalized 3 oz shot glass/ votive holder instead of a traditional 1.5oz shot glass.  We are looking at these and are planning on filling them with candy.  I know people say they are tacky but I really think it depends on your group of friends and family.  Most favors go to waste in my opinion.  For the people who want to keep them they are a cute and can be used in a practical way.  Many people have shot glasses that are mementos from trips and special occasions.  Adding one more to their collection is fine.  I don't think it matters what the favor is wine stopper, wine glass, trinket box, shot glass, etc., it is more clutter around the house that someone who was invited is not going to want.  I guess I rather have a shot glass that is practical around the house than a lot of the other stuff you get for favors.  It's all how you look at it.  I say do what you want but remember, no matter what you do someone will say it is a great idea and someone else will say it is a bad idea.

Here is where we are going to order ours through...

I totally agee with this. And my suggestion to you is to use a 4 inch tequila shot glass if you'd like to put a flower in it.
