Any advice for dress shopping

Hi ladies

This has prob been done before.Just looking for some advice i'm going looking at dresses for the first time on sat was wondering if ye have any tips like what to wear & stuff i'm a bit green at these kinda things 

I know i should have started ages ago but to tell the truth i just couldn't get my head around it.Getting a bit worried i've left it late.
