I am thinking about not doing favors. When I go to weddings, I don't really care about the favors but that just might be me... Is this okay or do people really care about the favors?
It's a nice, simple way to thank your guests for coming. I know the reception and everything that comes with it is considered a thank you, but little keepsakes are a nice reminder of your wedding. I don't know, I love favors, so that shades my opinion. I don't think they're absolutely necessary, but they're definitely nice if they don't blow your budget.

Or they are also clutter and something people leave or trash when they get home.

True, but not if it's useful. And let people leave them if they don't want them. Oh well.

The majority of things are not useful. And even if they are, they tend to fill junk drawers. yes, a shot glass, a pint glass, a book of matches, a deck of cards- all useful. Doesn't mean people want them or wont think they are clutter/junk. No one wants something in their house with YOUR name and wedding date on it.

Those aren't what I had in mind. Wine bottle stoppers, candy (you can eat that before you even leave the reception), glass coasters with hearts engraved on them... we're doing mini-pies in canning jars. I'm not a huge fan of your name and date on favors either; I originally meant that it'd be a nice keepsake of your wedding when the person thinks about where they got it. I think there's a couple different categories for favors: useful and not junk, not particularly useful but not necessarily junk, not useful junk... haha. You don't have to take it if you think it's clutter or junk.

Exactly true, though then the B&G are stuck with these things. I personally would rather put that few hundred dollars towards a better meal or something guests can remember the experience by.
I agree with one of the earlier posts... if your budget allows for it...power to you! I was dead set on favors... but realized every favor I have ever recieved.... was thrown away. So I just put the money towards more food! [= Haha... Everyone can enjoy that!
In no way would anyone consider you cheap for not having them. And, if you decide to do favors down the road, wait until you get a better idea on your RSVPs. That way, you won't over-buy or spend too much time on anything DIY.
