Too much?

Since there seems to be a lot of discussion about the appropriate way for a moderator to run a board, and some people are critical of the moderator and some are defending her (and the moderator doesn't seem to be at all interested in apologizing or changing how she responds to people), I thought perhaps we could see where public opinion is on this issue.

Feel free to leave a note on what you believe the role of moderator should be on this board.

EDIT: FYI, I'm not voting until there are a few more votes, just so people don't think I'm stacking the deck or anything.

I believe the role of a moderator should be mainly to sit back and moderate the board. She should make sure that vendors don't crash our boards. If she finds it appropriate, I believe she should comment. I personally try to be positive in my posts to other knotties, as I believe that we should encourage each other through all of the ups and downs of wedding planning. I also think that if someone asks for an oppinion on something, that she should have the right to give it, and if need be offer constructive criticism, and maybe suggest an idea that she has used or have heard worked for others. I wouldn't try to bash brides. Again, this is my personal oppinion.

A moderator should be around to enforce the rules.

It's fine to have a sticky with suggested items.  I know the Registering board has one too.  But the sticky is not a bible.  Furthermore, there is a difference between saying, "as a guest, I would not appreciate X " and that's a bad ideas, stick to edibles".  

You won't please everyone with your favors.  They're really not that important.  If someone doesn't like the favor, they will either give it away, leave it behind, or throw it out at a later time.  NBD.

I lurk on this board, and won't be voting, but I believe the MOD's job is to monitor the board, make sure the vendors don't post, and cool off bad posts. I read both of the posts from last night (the water bottle one and the NQB one) and I think she did overstep her boundaries. Maybe not to the fullest extent, but she definitely could have worded that water bottle thing totally different. What makes it worse is that by the time I had read it, she had already fixed her first post and had not someone else mentioned what she had really said, I would've thought everyone was butt hurt for nothing. She definitely needs a talkin' to.

I Want Cake

A moderator should be there to keep vendors from posting, keep Knotties from abusing each other, and keep everything civil with an eye toward helping people without trashing them.  Moderating should be a largely hands-off job that makes everything run smoother for the posters.
