Favors

Cupcake favors?

My fiance and I are not having a wedding cake.  Neither of us like cake, especially wedding cake.  Instead, we are having chocolate fondue with fruit, marshmallows, rice krispie treats, etc for dipping.

We've had some interesting responses to our "no cake" plan....apparently a lot of people feel slighted if they don't get cake at a wedding.  So we were thinking about doing cupcakes as favors.  Guests can eat them for dessert if they want, or just have something to take home with them.

A few questions:

1.  Is anyone else doing this, or has anyone else done this?

2.  Do you ladies generally think it's a good idea or bad idea?

3.  Cupcakes from trendy bakeries are yummy, but expensive! Like $3 per cupcake....which realistically is what wedding cake would probably cost, but is more than I would want to spend on a favor.    Has anyone made cupcakes themselves (scary?) or used an alternate source like grocery store or internet supplier?

4.  What about favor boxes?  I've seen some cupcake favor boxes online, generally for about $1 each, but that still seems expensive for a favor box....does anyone know of a good place to get cupcake favor boxes, or does anyone have any suggestions for other ways to package them?

Check with bakeries in your area, not just cupcake stores.  One of my area's best bakeries does cupcakes at about $1.50 each.

Try Papermart.com for any kind of packaging need.  They have favor boxes, bakery boxes, cello bags, etc.  I've used them for many different projects.  They have great quality, prices and service.

I found chinese takeout boxes at our dollar store for .50each and I'm sure you can find them in bulk online for cheaper, our local bakery uses them to package a cupcake if you only purchase 1.

I think that would be an inexpensive way to package your cupcake favors. As for the idea itself: yes it is great. Any edible favor is a good favor, especially a cupcake.

I'm also considering doing exactly this, fondue for dessert and cupcakes as our favours. Have you gotten any more feedback?

ps. I've looked everywhere for boxes and found the best prices on amazon. You can also get the wraps for the cupcakes there.
