Favor help... Early planner!

OK. Here's my question. My wedding is October 6th and I pretty much have everything done; just some of the smaller things to figure out. One of which is certain things I don't know how much I'll need of. My invites are going out next week sometime and I'm inviting 100 people. (obviously not every single guest will be able to make it) I guess my question is, how am I supposed to plan on how many table numbers to order and centerpieces etc etc when I won't really have a true head count till a few weeks before the wedding?

If anyone has any words of wisdom or advice I would LOVE to hear it.

Thanks Knotties!

  • We are guesstimating.  The centerpieces are from the florist and we gave a midpoint  estimate and are assuming we will have at least that amount and can add on if necessary.  If we underestimated, we'll see if we could use the money that would've went for the centerpieces to add more to other areas (cake tabe, sweetheart table, etc)

For table numbers, we're not doing anything fancy.....whatever the venue does, so that's not a worry for us.  Are you ordering or making table numbers?
  • We are planning enough for all invited to be on the safe side. We are inviting 125 but having enough for more incase they bring their children, an extra person, etc...

  • If you know how many guests sit at each table at your venue, then have enough table numbers and centerpieces for each one for sure. The reason I say that is if you are going to assign guests to tables, you will have some tables with 8 guests, some with 7, some with 9, if you are seating them based on who they know at that table and sometimes you will have tables with smaller numbers of guests. While only 83 of our 100 guests sent a "yes" RSVP, we arranged the guests at each table based on who knew whom, was related to whom, etc. Not every table had 10 guests assigned.

As for favors, if you already know what you are doing, have enough for every person. I did glass coasters with the guest's monogram on 2 coasters for each, including family members in California I KNEW were going to say no..........so yes, I have a lot of left over coasters with the initial "S", LOL. But in my house nothing goes to waste.

    Hope that helps.
  • Thanks for the advice!

I am torn between asigning guests to a table or actually doing assigned seating. My FI thinks assigned seating would make it all go smoother but I think people should pick their own seats of who THEY want to sit by at the table they are assigned to.

I don't want to spend a fortune on place cards/escort cards... does anyone have any advice on a reasonable route to go on these, i.e. websites?

We are just assigning tables.  With around 8-10 people at a table, we figure people can handle their own seating at the table assigned.
  • I agree, just assign the tables. I got seating cards (the kind that fold in half) at Michael's.
  • Your invites are going out next week for a wedding in October?  That is very early.  You may end up with people who said they were going but change their minds when it comes down to the last month.

Anyways, I planned seating and centerpieces for every guest I invited.  I'd rather have extra than to be short something and get frazzled over it.  Extra centerpieces can be used to decorate elsewhere, and guests love to take them home.
