number of favors

What is the rule on the number of favors you should purchase for your guests?  Is it one per person or one per couple?  Also, should you buy kid favors as well?

I always thought it was one per couple.  I don't think you have to have enough favors for the kids, just the adults.

It depends on favor, I always thought it was one per person. One per couple would be bottle of wine, etc.

If it is edible I always thought it was one per person but if it is like someone said above a bottle of wine or something along those lines it would be one per couple.

Weddings I've been to have been per person.... except when FI and I went to a wedding of his cousin. I received one and FI did not. So we thought that maybe it was per couple, but addressed to the female, except another one of his cousins received one with his name and his wife received one with his wife's name. I found it freakin' hilarious I received one, but FI didn't get one from his own cousin, lol! I gave FI the Jordan almonds.... I don't like those. Our joke is we're only going to give a favor to his cousin's wife. It was wierd though... a few of the cousins didn't get one.

I also though it was one per person, unless, like stated above, if it is a bottle of wine or something like that.
