cheap wedding, no favors

me and my fiance have been racking our brains on what we could do for a favor for the adults at our wedding. we are doing bottles of bubbles for the kids but we are on a tight budget and we couldnt think of anything. so one day i asked my mom what she did for her favors and she leaned over and whispered in my ear......"i did nothing for them. they shouldnt need to get a favor to want to be at your wedding" so then and there we decided no favors for the adults and it was nice to just move on from that problem. =)

You dont have to have favors, but its nice to thank your guests for coming and for gifts, if they brought them. There are tons of cheap inexpensive favor ideas you can do, but if its not in your budget and/or you dont want to do them, no one will walk away from your wedding saying "I can't believe they didn thave favors!" most favors are some type of small selection of edible candy (kisses, almonds, etc) no one will miss those.

The whole reception - you know, receiving your guests, hosting them with food and drink - IS a Thank You for attending your wedding.

I'm not doing favors. I put the money I would have spent on something that would have been thrown out on things the guests will appreciate, like a shuttle.

I have a feeling you meant to say "Inexpensive wedding" instead of "Cheap wedding" - the latter has a negative connotation....(sorry, I'm not pretending to be the grammar police but cheap vs. inexpensive irks me to no end).

Favors are not necessary at all. Usually unless they're edible or somehow actually useful, the majority of wedding favors are crappy tkotchkes that get left behind and that's a definate waste of money.

We really only did favors because my mother and grandmother pretty much refused to believe one could get legally married without giving out favors. So if your mom is saying "Don't waste your money", run with it! Lol.

We wound up doing little boxes of Jelly Belly beans (Our favorite candy), and it cost us about $200 for 100 guests.  But we also had a little extra money in our budget to do them (Our invitations and flowers wound up being a fraction of what we expected to pay). If we didn't have the extra money, we would have skipped them, my mother and grandmother be damned.

CT-I am so with you on the cheap vs. inexpensive!  I know it's semantics, but it makes me crazy whenever I see a post with "cheap" in the title.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146

I think it's nice to thank your guests. You can find favors for $1 or less on newfavors.com and they give you free personnalized tags once your order reaches $100.

The reception is tha thank you for yours guests - you know, the nice meal that follows the ceremony? ;-)

Also, I doubt I'd want any favor  that costs $1...unless it's a winning lottery ticket! Now THAT would be an awesome favor, lol.

I love the fact your mom whispered this as if the wedding police were after her for telling a big secret.

Your mom is right, skip 'em!

i say if you don't have the money in oyur budget to do a favor that is going to actually be used don't. When ever i go to weddings and get bubbles, candy and stuff like that i end up throwing it away or leaving it on the table.

thanks for all the feedback! wow i wasnt expecting anyone to reply to my message. After i posted this i was asking friends of the family what they did for their favors and believe it or not they all replied with nothing also. one friend actually said "we had a reception...what else do they want a damn certificate?"
