We are having an Oct. Wedding and will be doing caramel apples, in clear bags tied with ribbons with our names on it. May also do small tins with some cider mix in, we have a cookie/dessert bar that comes with the venue so I will have some to go boxes for those items as well.

My theme is butterflies so I found little butterfly shaped containers that i am going to put candy in.  Not sure what candy yet tho.  Then I am going to wrap them with Tulie and a ribbon with our name and date on it.  People will eat the candy and some may keep the box but either way I only spent about $0.30 on the containers so its not too much loss i guess.

Midgetth, with that philosophy, not everyone likes chocolates, candy, green tea, candy apples, mini vases, wine.....etc., etc.!!!  You can't please every single person!  And if guests have common sense, they won't consume something they have allergies to (nuts, etc.) or that interacts with their meds.  Duh!!  p.s.-- As a diabetic who doesn't eat a lot of sweets, I never leave a wedding offended if the favor is chocolates, candy, etc.  No big deal-- it's just a favor!

We are getting married at a Spanish restaurant and I plan to walk down the aisle holding a Spanish fan rather than a bouquet. We were considering giving the guests smaller fans as favors, but I'm worried they will be thrown out or the guys won't have any use for them. Has anyone given separate favors by gender?

My FI is a gamer geek and I love board games so we're getting custom made dice from chessex. On the one side we're going to have our first names and the date of the wedding.

we're trying hard to save money so we're doing candy in boxes.
but there's going to be a teal ribbon going around them and the same flowers that i time consumingly made for our invitations will be attached to the top.

for the wedding ceremony, we have bubble favors wrapped in ribbons in our wedding colors and they each have a little tag attached to it that is embossed with our names on one side and 10^3 on the other (since our wedding is on 10-10-10)

i know that it doesn't sound fancy, but i've spent a lot of time decorating/making them
i don't care so much what guests think about them (i mean, how many times can you see yourself using novelty salt and pepper shakers or a set of heart measurement cups? never...) because i know that everyone loves candy. we're filling them with sixlets in our wedding colors.

We have a little bit to go, but my mom and I are going to make wine charms since our wedding is wine themed and we're also giving out a pretzel wrapped in cellophane bags since we're from Reading, PA (aka Pretzel town).

We're doing t-shirts.  Also, our programs for the ceremony are booklets in a mix cd, so that is kind of a second favor.  On the reply cards, we had a space for t-shirt size, and a lot of people have expressed how excited they are for that.

    RE: the green tea

Whether you give green tea or chocolate or a vase or a picture frame or a candy apple or whatever, there's more than likely going to be *someone* who can't eat it or won't like it.

You can't please everyone, so go with something that represents you two as a couple and that you can be proud to give to your guests.

I understand that you should aim to please your guests and that they should leave happy, but you know what? Your guests are happy because they're there. They've shown up to support you and celebrate your marriage, not to get a gift. I'm sure they're not going to care that much if they can't eat the 20 M&Ms or Jordan almonds you gave away as a favor.

I am allergic to every nut there is, as well as most fruits, so I can rarely eat the favor gifts, but never once have I left the wedding thinking less of the couple or feeling slighted.

Just remind yourself that it's a token of appreciation. It's hard, but try not to overthink it. There's way too much more to worry about :)

EDIT: now to answer the actual question, LOL, we are giving away domino sets, FI's homebrew beer, bottle openers, koozies, coasters, and bottle stoppers. We're getting a few of each of these and placing them at various stations around the reception room, so if people want one, they can have one.

We are doing a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society and will place handwritten thank you cards at each place setting to thank them for coming and to explain the donation. We have lost many family members to cancer and thought this might actually be a useful gift.

We are having a hog roast at our reception and we are making our own custom spice rub (everyone will get 2 tablespoons worth).

Of course, when it comes to favors, there are going to be people who won't like it, won't take it, etc. That is why with the spice rub, we figure if some of it is left behind, we'll gladly take it home.  We grill out year round at our house!

My fiance owns a restaurant and makes amazing bread dip that goes out on the tables with the bread and everyone raves about it. We're putting it in jars and putting some cute labels/ribbon on them. We're doing one jar per invitation instead of for every single person. It is only costing us about $100-$150.

I thought about doing a chocolate fondue fountain.. getting strawberries, pretzels, marshmallows, etc; and ppl could make their own yummy favor and have the  packaging at the table for them to take with them...

but i had the candy table idea and already bought boxes for it.. so im doing a candy table and guests can put whatever candy they want into the little favor boxes..

not sure what we will go with yet, we still have tons of time to decide, but i really like the idea of personalized bottles of jones soda. you can create your own label design on jonessoda.com with a picture of the two of you, and your names, the date, etc... also, the sodas come in a lot of fun flavors/colors so you can match your wedding colors :)

We are having our wedding in December in Illnois no less so it will be very cold. Our favor to our guests will be home-made fleece scarfs that will double as chair sashes. The cost is just under $1 a person.

I am baking molasses cookies (from FI's dad's recipe) and setting up a table with the little brown bags of the cookies tied with ivory and eggplant ribbon (to incorporate our colors) and glass bottles of milk from a local dairy that FI loves. The cookies are usually a Christmastime special, and everyone who has tried them LOVES them, so I know they won't go to waste, especially if FI gets his hands on them, lol.

Drink coozies... To have and to hold and to keep your beer (or drink) cold.  Then it says our names and the wedding date.  I wanted something that if I had extra, I could still use and not have them sit around being a waste of money.

We're going to make a donation to the American Heart Association in memory of my FI dad who passed away 11 years ago, and my best friend (would have been one of 2 MOH) who passed away for heart related reasons 2 years ago. We'll have nice notes explaining everything with nice quote or poem.

Our centerpieces may involve lemons (accent color to the main color), so I may have bags and a recipe for limoncello as an aside.

We're having a Puppy Love theme (we're big dog lovers) and every wedding I've been to I've gotten some little knick knack that just collected dust and no one wanted anyways. Instead we're doing a donation to the ASPCA and when you donate they send you however many cards you need to sit at the place setting that says "A donation has been made in your name"

We actually didn't do any.  No one even noticed.  If you have enough in your budget go for it but if there is another area where you would like to spend more money skip the favor altoghether.

My wedding is now in a month. We are alternating candy boxes that are a wedding dress and a tux filled with red black and white m&m's. Also we are having a photo booth as our main favor. Its a twist and a practical wedding favor that you know everyone will like and everyone will always save a picture! Also you have it for the whole night and its unlimited photos so people can go in there and take as many as they want and walk away with a handful of wonderful and fun pictures. Also we are having the photobooth print out double pictures and the guest will walk to the table next to the photo booth and tape there picture into a photo scrap book leaving us a message or good wishes. That is also something that the photo booth company offers! Its really fun and unique! Whatever you decide to do, make sure its exactly what you want! (Red Eye Photo Booths.com) Hope that helps!! Good luck and Best wishes!

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: What are you using for your favors? : Not everyone likes green tea.  And don't say "but if they don't want it they can give it away".  No one wants to be that person who totes home 15 cans because no one else wanted it.  As for the teddy bears, yes, people can give away the teddy bear, but they likely wont. It will likely end up in the trash.

<div>This comment isnt really helpful, I mean you say dont get tea because not everyone likes tea, don't get teddy bears because people will throw it away. Well, then what would you get? Because yea, not everyone likes candy. Not everyone likes lanterns. Not everyone likes mints or teddy bears or anything, really. </div><div>
</div><div>You can't please everybody no matter what you pick so pick something meaningful to you. And believe me SOMEONE at your wedding will be stoked that they got 15 cans of green tea or candy or whatever your favor is. </div><div>
</div><div>We went to a wedding were some fancy jams were the gift and they were so popular someone actually took ours off my chair. </div>

In lieu of favors my fiance and I decided we are going to donate money to the Children's Hospital of Detroit. This is a cause that is very close to our hearts as both of his (our) nieces have/had a heart condition that needs to be closely monitored. They both received excellent care from Children's and we want to thank them for all their love and support. Unfortunately, one of his sister's daughters did not make it. It was very hard on our family, but we were comforted by the fact that the nurses and doctors did everything they could to try to save her. We feel our guest would rather support something we believe in than receive a physical gift. And hopefully our gift will be able to help save a child that's parents might not be able to afford treatment.
